Plans for holding a supper with Carson community to discuss helping the Carl Angel family, which recently lost its home to fire, were made. A band composed of Jack Nich ols, Carnell Dewesse, John D Wells. Paul Smith. Weaver Hurst, and Ralph Penland entertained. History Skit Given At Cowee Rural Gathering By MRS. GRACE TATHAM (Community Reporter) Cowee folks' knowledge of such historical periods as the Civil War and pre-Revolutionary Amer ica paid off Thursday night when program chairman Mrs. Josephine Roper conducted a TV history skit at the Cowee Rural Commun ity Development Organization meeting. A number of prizes were award ed. The $5 attendance prize went to Luther Raby. It was reported *50 worth of playground equipment for the com munity playground, located at Cowee School, has arrived and is in use. The group set aside work 'days for Saturday of last week 'and Monday night of this week to improve the Cowee picnic area A house-to-house canvass was made last week end in The Frank lin Press's profit-sharing sub scription contest. C. A. P. Major Wilson To Visit Franklin Squadron On Friday Major Juanita Wilson, of Ashe ville, an officer with the N. C. Wing of Civil Air Patrol, is sched uled to meet with the Franklin C. A. P. Squadron tomorrow (Fri day) night. The meeting is set for 8 o'clock at the airport. A recr\|iting campaign for sen ior members and cadets in the local squadron is now in the plan ning stages and should be kicked off within the next week, accord ing to the commander, Capt. Frank Plyler. He also announced that Frank lin is now in line to receive an L-5 aircraft for permanent assign ment and he predicted that this will help stimulate Interest in the squadron's activities. In addition, the squadron is next in line for an aircraft that is rotated among squadrons in the state, he said. The aircraft will be used for orientation flights for cadets and qualified senior members. Episcopal Ministers Are Named Deputies At Annual Meeting Macon County's two Episcopal ministers were named deputies to different Episcopal functions at the 35th annual convention of the Diocese of Western North Carolina, which closed at Ruther fordton Thursday of last week. The Rev. A. Rufus Morgan, of St. Agnes church, In Franklin, was chosen a deputy to the pro vincial synod. Dr. Herbert Koepp Baker, of the Highlands Church of the Incarnation, was named deputy to the general convention. Attending the diocese meeting with Mr. Morgan were Donald E. Whelan, of St. Agnes, and Bill Lenoir, of St. Cyprian. Oolng from Highlands were Dr Koepp-Baker, Alfred Hallett. Tu dor N. Hall, and Col. James Howe. Angel Memorial Service Union School Eighth Graders Talking Of Many Things After Down East Trip Union school eighth graders have plenty of things to talk about. Things like the Morehead Plan etarium in Chapel Hill, the State Fair ground in Raleigh, the Gov ernor's Mansion, the State Muse um, and radio and television. It all has to do With their re cent bus trip down east. The eighth graders left here May 2. First Stop for "looking" was in Chapel Hill, site of the University of North Carolina. In addition to the planetarium, the class saw the Old Well. Old East Dormitory, the Bell Tower, the Sundial, and Kenan Stadium, where the Tar Heels play football. They spent the night at the youth camp at the state Fair Ground and on Friday had a full day of visiting in the Capitol building, the Governor's Mansion. Andrew Johnson's birthplace, the Hall of History, two state muse ums. and television Station WNAO-TV and radio Station WKIX. The class returned home Sat urday night.
