Cullasaja Plans For Fair; 4-Hers Building Bird Boxes Bv MISS MARIE JENNINGS i Community Reporter' Main topic of discussion at the Sept 3 meeting of the Cullasaja Rural Community Development Organization meeting was the county fair. Plans for community and in dividual participation were made. Mrs. Charlie Bowers. Mrs. Leona Sadler. Mrs. John Bryson. and Mrs. Roy Stiwinter were named as a committee to prepare the community booth. Mrs. Vernon Bryson, 4-H leader, reported that the 4-H boys are talcing the building of bird boxes and houses as a project this year. The community voted to buy 4-H record book covers for the 4-H members who do not have them. The group voted to give $25 from the treasury to the Sugar fork Cemetery fund to be used for 1 the upkeep of the cemetery. Home improvements reported in clude: Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Thompson have a new electric stove and have painted their kitchen: Ed Jennings has painted the outside of his house: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blanton have a new power mower: Mrs. Betty Gregory has a new electric frying pan: Hal and Geraldine Henry have put cabinets and running water in their house: Charles Jefferies has put a bathroom and running water in his house: and Mrs. Lem i Crisp has a new electric steam iron. Before the business session, the devotional period was led by the Rev. Conrad Barrett, pastor of the Cullasaja Assembly of God Church, with a prayer by Pat Cable. Group singing was led by Pritch ard Russell. Plans were made by the ladies to paint the mail box posts in the community. Mrs. Gertrude Hughes won the door prize. IN GERMANY ? Keener Finishes Army Engineer School Course Army Sp/3 John H. Keener re cently was graduated from the U. S. Army's European Engineer School at Murnau. Germany, ac cording to the Army Home Town News jCenter. He is the son of Mr. and Mrv Mell P Keener, of Highlands. His wife. Mrs. Callie Keener, also j lives in Highlands. Specialist Keener completed the school's four-week tractor opera tor course, which trained him In the operation and maintenance of tractors and tractor-drawn attach ments. The 21-year-old soldier is a 1955 graduate of Highlands High School and entered service in September. 1955. He took his basic training at Fort Jackson. S. C. A. S C. Vote Machinery Is In Motion Machinery for the election of Agricultural Stablization and Con | servation community committee men is now in motion. The county A.S.C. elections board has met and set the date of the election for Oct. 8. Community election boards this , week are arranging election de tails and selecting slates of nom inees.
