The new anti-shoplifting- law, passed at the last session of the N. C. General Assembly, is now in force. This new and fair law is for the protection of the public, as well as for the protection of the merchants of our State. ? SHOPLIFTING IS A SERIOUS OFFENSE ? PUNISHMENT- FINE UP TO $100 6 MONTHS IN JAIL, OR BOTH ? TO CONCEAL UNPURCHASED MERCHANDISE ON OR ABOUT THE PERSON IS SHOPLIFTING, UNDER THE LAW! This is the New Law: Section 1, Chapter 14 of the General Statutes is am mended by adding a new section immediately following: G. S. 14-72 to be .designated as G. S. 14-72.1, and to read as follows: ! "G. S. 14-72.1. Whosoever, without authority, willfully conceals the goods or merchandise of any store, not theretofore purchased by such person, while still upon the premises of such store, shall be guilty of a misde meanor and, upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not more than one hunnred dollars ($100.00) or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Such goods or merchandise found concealed upon or about the person and which have not heretofore been purchased by such person shad be Prima Facie evidence of a willful concealment. "Any person found guilty of a second or subsequent of fense of willful concealment of goods as defined In the first paragraph of this section shall be guilty of a mis demeanor and shall be punished In the discretion of ths court." The Franklin Merchants Pork Loin Gives You Plenty For Your Money If you're one who wonders how to set the most tor your money, 'hen these suggestions from Ruby P. Uzzle, agricultural extension service consumer marketing spe clr.culd fit your pocketbook isi aild appeal to your meals. The pork loin is a top value yieca of meat, which extends -i oni the ham to the shoulder. It contains the backbone and upper part of the ribs. The meat consists of thick, tender muscle that runs the entire length of the loin and a smaller muscle, the tenderloin, which entends about one-third of the length from the ham end. To get three delicious and dif ferent meals from one pork loir is as simple as 1, 2, 3. According to Mrs. Uzzle, for these thref fresh-cooked pork meals select the more economical rib cut of pork loin. The larger your family the larger the cut you will need Here's how you can get thcsi meals: 1. MEATY BARBECUED BACK BONES ? Have your meat>mar. saw through the ribs high enough to leave an inch-thick layer of meat on the backbones. Ask him to chop these "country-style" backbones into serving size pieces Cook as spareribs. 2. PORK CHOPS AND GRAVY -Later cut enough chops for an other meal from the remaining piece by slicing between the ribs. This is now easy because the backbone has been removed. 3. EASY-TO-SERVE PORK ROAST ? You still have a piece left to cook as a pork roast for your third fresh-cooked meal. Be sure to cook pork thoroughly. Use an oven temperature of 325 to 350 degrees and roast about 40 minutes per pound. Another important development in the Navy's spreading airwing is the first lighter-than-man helicopter powered by dwarf sized rockets. The pilot straps himself in a bucket type open cockpit, and as he gains altitude his feet dangle out below the cockpit. When landing, the pilot's feet act as human landing gear. The Navy Seabees and Civil Engineer Corps in the Hawaiian area celebrated their respective anniversaries by constructing an "island", complete with all mili tary installations in one day or. a street corner in Honolulu. The "island" contained a road, ar. air strip, gun emplacements, a combat information center and i water purification system. Slagle Gurnseys Complete Records Two registered Guernseys own ed by A B. Slagle, of Franklin, have completed official production records In the advanced registry division of the American Guern sey Cattle Club. Belmont View Bonwick Tulsa, a. senior three-year-old, produced 12. 617 pounds of milk and 542 pounds of fat in 365 days. She was milked two times daily. ? They tried to get as low, but had to lower the roof to do it. (Less headroom, same high, boxy, cooped-up look.) Their windshields got smaller, while ours got bigger. Most of them still don't have Total-Contact Brakes to assure smooth, even, safe stops when needed. Nor do they offer push-button TorqueFlite, the proven automatic transmission, and Constant-Con trol power steering that works full time ? not part time as some other systems do. And Dodge no-sway, no-dip Torsion-Aire is standard equipment. (Bus-type air springs offered by some cars cost well over $100.00 extra.) So compare all the 1958 models with Dodge. We think you'll agree: Other cars are catching on, but they can't catch up. See Swept-Win Dodge At MACON MOTOR COMPANY, Inc. 244 Palmer Street West < Franklin, N. G.
