Bits And Briefs From Cullasaja And Higdonvffle Mhi Marl* Jenolnis Stuff Correspondent Higdonriile Community Develop ment Organization met last Fri day night, March 7, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louin Young with 30 present. Mrs. Ann Berry, president, presided. The devotional was given by Fred Corbin. One feature of the business session were discussions about the Blue Cross Plan and the Ameri can Red Cross. It was decided to take individual donations for the Red Cross. These donations may be left with Mrs. Berry. The highlight of the evening was the surprise party the com munity had for Mr. and Mrs. Louin Young in observance of their silver (25th) wedding anni versary, following the business session. The refreshment commit tee served refreshments and the honorees were presented many gifts. The April meeting will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. (Dude) Berry. Mrs. Cecil Parker will be the guest speaker, using the subject "Citizenship". ? ? ? The Higdonvllle Community 4-H Club gave the program for 4-H "Achievement Day" Saturday. They used the same program at the Cullasaja P.-T. A. meeting Tuesday night. Their leader Is Mr*. Sidney Clay. ? ? ? The Cullasaja Community 4-H Club met Monday, March 10. at the home of Mrs. Vernon Bryson New offlcera elected for the year were: Carol Thompson, presi dent; Carroll Arnold, vice-presi dent; Michael Bryson. secretary treasurer; Carol and Arbutus Hol land, sons leaders; Janice Thomp son and Linda Moore, pianists; Annette Thompson and Dean Stl wlnter, club mascots; and Patricia Bryson, reporter. This was a business and recre ational meeting. Mrs. Vernon Bry son explained the 4-H garden pro ject to the group. Five from the club have decided to participate in this project. Other projects taken were forestry, wild life, baking, sewing, and dinner prep aration. After the meeting, refreshments were served. Thirteen were pres ent. The Cullasaja Home Demonstra tion Club met last Friday after noon at the home of Mrs. Pritch ard Russell with 12 members pres ent. Mrs. Prltchard Peek, presi dent. presided, and the devotional was glVen by Mrs. A. C. Moore. Mrs. Florence Shemll discussed "Better Ways of Sewing in Zip pers". and showed the members samples of materials. Refreshments were served. The April meeting will be at the home of Mrs. R D. Burnette. Master David Mark Barrett was honored with a party by his mother. Mrs. Conrad Barrett, March 3, observance of his second birthday. Seventeen guests were present. Oames were played and refresh ments of birthday cake, ice cream, and soft drinks were served by Mrs. Barrett and co-hostesses, Mrs. Bertha Barrett, grandmother of the honoree, and Mrs. Vernon Bryson. ? ? ? The Women's Missionary Coun cil of the Assembly of God Church made a quilt for the parsonage when they met recently at Mrs. John Bryson's home. ? ? ? Cullasaja Community Develop ment Organization met Tuesday night, March 4 at the school with John Bryson, president, presiding. Mrs. Mabel Swan and John Wrinn were guest speakers. Mrs. Swann spoke on the "Cost of Living Trend in 1958", and Mr. Wrinn spoke on the "General Economic Outlook for 1958". The president read some mater ial about the Blue Cross Plan. It was decided to give a $20 contribution to the American Red Cross. Mrs. Vernon Bryson, a 4-H lead er, discussed the 4-H garden pro ject and gave out lists of rules to club members. The community is paying for 4-H book covers. Home improvements reported were: Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Bry son have built cabinets in their kitchen and have built some clothes closets; Mrs. C. T. Bryson has a new electric floor polisher; "Buddy" Stanfield has a new farm tractor. It was decided to get a bull dozer to do 'some grading at the Sugarfork Cemetery grounds. The comunity plans to sponsor a box supper and cake walk Fri day night, April 4, at the school. Everyone- was asked to wear a hat to the next meeting ? the more unusual the hat the better, as prizes will be given to the man and woman wealing the most un usual one. Theodore Hicks won the tl. door prize. Mrs. Vernon Bryson dismissed the group with prayer. ? ? ? A son, John Keith, was bom to Mr. and Mrs. John Fuman MV Connell, February 23, in Pitts burgh, Pa. Charles Olbson and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Gibson, of Andrews, spent Sunday with Mrs. Ben Gib son and other relatives here. Furman Corbin, Jr., of Ashevllle, visited his grandmother. Mrs. Bra Corbin, over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Corbin, of Mars Hill, vfclted his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Corbin this * past week-end. Airman Apprentice Elmer Cook, of the UJS. Navy, is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cook. He is stationed at Memphis, Tenn.
