Clyde P. Patton, executive dl; rector of the Wildlife Resources Commission, has stated that prosecution reports indicated that pre-season poaching on trout streams is on the rise. The com mission's patrol plane has been assigned to the mountain dis tricts for the crackdown, and will be used to fly over remote streams where the illegal fishing Is ex pected. Two-way, air-ground radio communication will enable pro tectors to investigate anglers spotted by the airplane, Mr. Pat ton explained. The Impatient anglers may fol low In the wake of hatchery trucks, Mr. Patton noted. The commission's trout hatcheries have already begun distribution of the first trout to be released this year. According to Martin Sullivan, supervisor of trout pro duction, a total of 275,550 large, healthy trout will be stocked dur ing the coming months. This total includes 83,900 brook, 165,650 rain bow, and 26,000 brown trout. Most of the fish will be placed in designated trout waters open to the public at all times during the season, while the remainder will be stocked on refuges where fish ing is also open to the public but restricted to certain days. A special mountain trout license is required in addition to the usual fishing license, and receipts from the sale of these licenses, are used to operate the hatcheries and pro tect the trout. (Jim) Raby, of Frank lin, was renominated to a two year term as a Macon County Farmers Federation director at the tafm cooperative's annual county stockholders meeting held on March 6 at the local Federation store. James McClure Clarke, Farm ers Federation president, conduct ed the meeting and the re-election of the Franklin store committee, to which the stockholders added Mrs. Jack Frady, of Franklin. Mr. Raby's renomination will be voted upon at the annual meet ing of all Farmers Federation stockholders scheduled for the Buncombe County Courthouse in Asheville. Charles W. Davis, acting general manager, announced that during the period from July 1, 1957, to Dec. 31, 1957, there was a busi ness increase of over $615,000 at all the Farmers Federation stores. Mr. Davis announced improve ments made in the operations of the market department and the poultry division and also stated that plans are being made to ex pand commercial egg production throughout Western North Caro lina. Davis also declared that the purchase of the Franklin Feed Mill would enable the Farmers Federation to render better service to patrons in Macon and sur rounding counties. J. N. Barnette, supervisor of retail stores, told stockholders that each Farmers Federation manager had recently completed an eight-hour course in sales train ing and management. Mr. Barnette also described and demonstrated new lines of mer chandise now being handled at all the stores. Tom Fagg, Macon farm agent, announced plans for the 1958 4-H Club Pullet Chain, sponsored by the Farmers Federation. Other speakers included the Rev. Jack Waldrep, religious de partment director; Gene Fri'zzell. local store manager; Fred Han nah, Macon County Federation director; and Max Roberts, edu cational director. Winners of free chicks at the meeting were Mr. Raby, Mrs. A. G. Kinsland, Mrs. J. L. Young, and S. A. Knight. Entertainment was provided by the Farmers Federation String Band and refreshments were ser ved.
