Mrs. Bueck was hostess to 105 seniors, four senior sponsors, and the two high school principals at the gathering, which was held in the cafeteria. An Easter theme and the colors of white and green were carried out in the table decorations. Cookies, Easter candy, and minia ture sandwiches were served with a fruit punch. After refreshments were served, Mr. Bueck spoke to the seniors. ? ? ? Last Friday, four senior girls, Susie Mashburn, Edith Leopard, Kathryn Emory, and Evelyn Blan ton, were given tests by a Central Intelligence Service representative. All four girls passed the tests and, according to the representative, placed higher than the national average for high school students. They ranked very high in the vocabulary part of the test. This is a credit to these girls and to the faculty of FJH.S., especially in the English department. * * * The Class of 1958 last week elected permanent alumni officers. The class pldns to have a reunion in 1963, and the officers will be responsible for contacting mem bers of the class and preparing for the event. The teams, which will be elected in the fresh man. sophomore, Junior, and senior classes, will vie for the titles of boys' and girls' "championship basketball teams" in the high school. Nantahala School News By JOAN SOLES BEE On March 24, the school basket ball tournament continued, with the fourth grade girls and boys playing the sixth graders. The sixth graders won both games. Frances Bateman's team played Wanda Owenby's. The Bate man team won, but its captain had to drop out of the game with a sprained ankle that will stay in a cast until next week. The teams of Kenneth Solesbee and Tod Bateman clashed In the finals with a victory for Ke&nctM boys. On the 25th, the sixth grad* girls played the seventh grade. The seventh grade won. Th* eighth grade boys defeated the sixth grade. Prances Bat?nan's team defeated Cynthia Queen's ta the girls' finals. ? ? ? A poultry meeting was held at Nantahala High School on the 25th. ? ? ? The senior 4-H members had a sewing session on the 24th, with Mrs. Florence 8. Sberrtll, home agent, and Mrs. Mabel Swan, as sistant agent, supervising. They made skirts, blouses, and short*. ? ? ? The P.-T A. met the 24th and planned for a basketball game to night (Thursday) between the teachers and parents.
