Franklin High Highlights By Jo?nn Barrel! *>"he senior class last Friday pre se' '.?d a "Class Day" program in the gymnasium foi the student bocy. The purpose of the program wr:~. to give the seniors a chance to nake their official farewell to the student body of Franklin H'ch School. Acting as master of ce-cmonies during the program wn: Edward Shatley, president of thr class. Gary Clark read the "Class History", which was writ ten by Frances Barrett and Pa tricia Hedden. The "Class Proph ec~ " was written and read by Bill Krckbaum, and Gary McKelvey reiid the "Last Will and Testa meat", which was written by Shir le; Cruse and Wayne Cole. Mrs. Margaret Flanagan's choral group, wh>ch is composed of members of he seventh and eighth grades ar<? high school students, provid ed music for the program. The ?'Cass Song" was sung by the *e? iors to the piano accompani ment of Mis. Henry W. Cabe, who pUi. ed for the program. This was the first time that a "Class Day" had ever been held at Franklin High School. After the program. C. K. Olson. Dick Stott. and Mrs. Rose Corbin presented letters to basketball players, football players, and cheerleaders who had earned them this year. Many congratulations should go to Mrs. Flanagan and her chor us. She and the members of the chorus sacrificed many hours of their time in order to be able to sing at the program. The students in the choral group have missed intramural basketball games and other activities in order to prac tice almost daily. They are doing a splendid job and are continuing to work on music for the bacca laureate service and commence ment exercises. Seventy-one seniors plan to at tend "Senior Day" at Western Carolina College Friday, April 25. These students, along with their sponsor Mrs. Marie P. The Young People of Cowee Baptist Church have been put to work. Yes, they are observing "Young Week", with Tommy Raby as youth pastor. The "Youth Week" officers enjoyed a social at the community picnic area Tuesday night. ? ? ? The Young People's Training Union group from Liberty Bap tist Church will give a special program following the regular training union classes Sunday night. Training Union w4ll begin at 7: IS, in order to give them time for this program before preach ing service. A social Is planned by the Jun ior Training Union class from Liberty ttf. the home of Perry Shepherd tomorrow (Friday) night. The juniors are inviting the intermediate class to join in the fun. ? ? ? A. coronation service, und er the direction of Mrs. Clyde Rhinehart, featured the program of the regular "Family Night" will leave the school early Friday morning and will register at the college around 10 o'clock. During the day. they will tour the campus, attend college classes, and enjoy various forms of recreation. As guests of the. college, they will re ceive a free lunch. A recent survey among the sen iors at Franklin High School shows that 52 of the 105 students plan to further their education in colleges, trade or technical schools, or in business schools.
