Blaine Takes Training With Unit In Germany Pfc. Theodore R. Blaine, 19. son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Blaine, of Franklin, Route 1. recently com pleted annual squad and platoon Army field training tests conduct ed by the 11th Airborne Division near Hohenfels. Germany, accord ing to the Army Home Town News Center. Pfc. Blaine is a rifleman in Company E of the division's 504th Infantry and arrived overseas in February, 1956. He attended Franklin High School before entering the Army in April. 1955. McCall Marches In Honor Guard At Wilmington Festival Pfc. George B. McCall, sonNpf Mr. and Mrs. G. B. McCall. of Franklin. Route 3. marched with the 82nd Airborne Division's hon or guard at the recent Azalea Flower Festival in Wilmington. The honor guard was reviewed by the festival queen. Miss Esther Williams. McCall. a cook in Company E of the division's 501st Infantry, at Fort Bragg, entered the Army in September, 1956, and received basic training at Fort Chaffee, Ark. The 24-year-old soldier attended Franklin High School. His wife, Eva, lives in Fayetteville. Ledford, Meredith Professor, Wins Fulbright William R. Ledford, professor in the foreign language depart' ment at Meredith College, has been awarded a Pulbright Schol arship for the coming summer. Son of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Ledford, of Franklin, Route 2, he plans to attend the summer sem inar of the Instituto Caro y Cuer va in Bogota, Colombia. The education exchange grant will entitle him to an elghtrweek course for American teachers of Spanish. Mr. Ledford is a graduate of Berea College and he received his master's degree from the Univer sity of Iowa. He also has done ad ditional graduate work at the Uni versity of North Carolina. He taught in Roxboro before joining the Meredith facility .Mr. Ledford . . . Wins Scholarship Buecks Have Busy Time In Raleigh Supt. and Mrs. H. Bueck spent Friday and Saturday in Raleigh. Friday.
