Garden Club Tour Slated The monthly meeting of the Franklin Garden club Monday afternoon will be a garden in spection tour. Members are asked to meet at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. B. B. Scott to begin the tour. The last stop at the home of Mrs. E. S. Purdom, on Wayah Road. Mrs. Purdom, chairman of the beautifi cation committee, is in charge of the tour and is one of the hostesses. Co-hostesses will be Mrs J. Ward Long, Mrs. B. L. Mc Glamery, and Mrs. S. M. Winkle black. Seaman Allison Back In States Following Cruise In Far East Seaman Claude T. Allisori, of Franklin, aboard the radar picket destroyer USS Duncan, returned to San Diego. Calif., May 15 after a six-month cruise in the Western Pacific with Destroyer Division 52 Leaving the states last Novem ber, the division visited Pearl Har bor, Pago Pago. American Samoa Sydney, and other Australian ports, and Manus in the Admiralty Islands before joining the US Seventh Fleet in the Far East Chirstmas was spent in Subic Bay, Philippine Islands, and aftei a period of -operations and a visit to Manila. P. I., the destroyers traveled to Japan for rest and upkeep. Following their participation in the February amphibious warfare exercise in the Philippines, the destroyers' crew visited Hong Kong and took part in patrol of the Formosan Straits. Carson Guest Joe Morgan, a member of the Patton 4-H Club, was a guest at the Carson community meeting Saturday night. Joe gave a demonstration on "Soil and Water Conservation". Humphreys, Summer Resident, Dies In Florida Chester Charles Humphreys, of Tampa, Fla., who purchased the Wellman Lodge at Cullasaja about five years ago. died May 19 In Tampa of a cerebral hemor rhage. Sixty-eight, he spent his sum mers for many years in North Carolina. Mr. Humphreys had re tired last yeai after "most 17 years' sen-ice as deputv installa tion engineer at MacDill Air Force Base. A native of Irontown. Ohio, he went to Tampa in 1925 to super vise construction, organization, and operation of the city's water works. He organized his own busi ness in 1933. and in 1936 entered government service as chief engi neer with the Public Works Ad ministration in Tampa. He assum ed his job at MacDill in 1940. Mr Humphreys . is survived by his wife. Mrs. Marion E Humph reys, and a son, Charles H . both of Tampa, and two sisters. Miss Addie H. Humphreys and Miss Bert H. Humphreys, of Los An geles, Calif. ?
