That was the message of Gor don L. Butler, of Andrews, gover nor of district 767 of Rotary In ternational. in addressing the Franklin Rotary Club last Thurs day night following a conference ; with local Rotary officers and committee chairman. In addition to the activities of the more than 9.800 Rotary clubs within their own communities to promote this objective, Mr. But ler explained. Rotary Internation al has awarded grants of more than $2,600,000 in the past 11 years through its program of stu dent fellowships, which enable outstanding college graduates to study for one year in countries other than their own, as Rotary ambassadors of good will. Since 1947, when this program was established, 1,076 Rotary Founda tion Fellowships have been award ed to students in 65 countries for study in 43 countries. "With fellowship and service to others as its keynote. Rotary pro- , vides a common ground for 462, , 500 business and professional executives throughout the world, J regardless of differing national ities or languages or political and religious beliefs." the Rotary dis trict governor emphasized. "In addition to the promotion of international understanding," Mr. Butler continued, "special emphasis is being placed by Ro tary clubs in this district, which includes 38 Rotary clubs in the Piedmont and Mountain area of North Carolina, on the individual Rotarlan's part in helping to carry out International Rotary president Clifford A.
