Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Add dry ingredients. Knead until springy. Make into three rolls and wrap in wax paper. Store in refrigerator overnight. Slice thin. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. Other favorites of Macon Coun ty homemakers include the fol lowing: Date-Nat Plnwheels < Yt cup butter 1 V? cup light brown sugar, packed < Yi cup granulated sugar 1 Yi teaspoon vanilla 1 egg < 2 cups sifted flour % teaspoon salt 1 V? teaspoon soda Fillings: 1 1 package (6 V4 oz.) dates Y* cup sugar 1 Vt teaspoon salt '/} cup water Prepare filling: cut dates in 1 small pieces, add sugar, salt, and water; simmer for 5 minutes, stir ring constantly. Add nuts and : cool. Cream butter; add sugar, vanil- , la, and egg; beat until light. Add sifted dry ingredients, and mix well. Chill until firm enough to roll. Halve dough; roll each half on floured waxed paper, into a 12x9 Inch rectangle. Spread with filling; roll up tightly from end. Wrap in paper. Chill overnight. Slice Ya inch thick. Mrs. Stanley Penland < Lemon Mardl Gras Squares Sift together: l'/i cups sifted flour Vi teaspoon salt V 4 teaspoon baking powder Beat: 3 egg whites until soft mounds begin to form. Add 1 cup sifted confectioners sugar gradu ally, beating well after each ad dition. Continue beating until stiff, straight peaks are formed when beater is raised. Cream : Vi cup butter 1 cup sugar Add: 3 egg yolks, one at a time. Beat for 1 minute. Cookies From Cake Mix plain cookies: To one regular size package of any of the cake mixes listed below add 2 unbeaten eggs and 3 tablespoons cooking oil. Yellow: Add Vt teaspoon nut meg and 1 teaspoon caraway seed to dough. Peanut Delight: Shape dough Into small balls, and roll In coarse ly chopped unsalted peanuts. Cabe Ginger Christmas Cookies Vi cup soft shortening Yt cup brown sugar 2 eggs % cup molasses 3 cups sifted flour 1 teaspoon soda % teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (1) Cream shortening and sugar. (2) Add eggs and molasses and beat with rotary beater until smooth. (3> Sift dry ingredients together and work Into shortening mixture. (4) Chill dough 3 to 4 hours. (5) Remove half the dough from the refrigerator and roll out on lightly floured board V? Inch thick. (6) Cut with desired plain or fancy cutters. (7) Place on lightly greased cookie sheets and bake in pre heated moderate oven (375 de grees) 8 to 10 minutes ? or when touched lightly with finger tip, no Imprint remains. <8) These cookies scorch easily so watch them carefully.
