S. C. ? Know The Rulrs Persons buying or selling farm land with an acreage allotment have full responsibility for becom ing familiar with the regulations of the Secretary of Agriculture governing combinations and di visions of allotments and for ad vising county ASC committees of purchase or sales made, accord ing to Miss Mildred Corbin, office mangaer of the local office. County committees arc not in a position to know of all land sales and purchases and, therefore, cannot "change the acreage allot ment for any land involved until a request for a division or a com bination is filed by the interested producer. The Department of Agriculture has issued definite regulations and instructions on how allot ments may be divided or combined and county offices must follow these Instructions in all cases. May farmers have had some un happy experiences in the past be cause they did not determine in j advance how the acreage allot- j merits would be divided before they bought or sold land. Both the buyer and the seller have a re sponsibility for notifying county A.S.C. offices as soon as possible , after land is bought or sold and for requesting the office to make j a division of the allotment, if only | a part of the farm is sold. If the purchaser owns other land and wishes to combine the newly pur chased land with what he already owns, he must file a request with the county committee for the com bination. Lawyers or real estate agencies who are handling the sale or pur chase of farmland should become familiar with the regulations be fore advising their client ?or com- ' pleting transaction.
