MARGARET COOPER An entranced audience listened Friday night to a recital given by Irene Leftwich Harris, pianist, of Decatur. Ga.. (or members of the Franklin Music Study Club and their guests. Mrs. Harris played with a spar kling technique and amazing strength and richness of tone. The program ?pened with the well-known theme from Gluck's Orpheus Ballet music, arranged by Hodgson. The Mozart Sonata K. 457, which followed, was played with a sureness that marked Mrs. Harris as a true artist. Her second group of composi tions by Chopin was the high spot of the recital. Included were Etude Op. 25 No. 1, Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1. Waltz Op 42. and Bal lade Op 23. All the poetic beauty of Chopin's music was brought out by Mrs. Harris. i II The last group was made up of | modern and familiar numbers: ' Garden Music by Nelmann, The Sunken Cathedral by Debussy. Prelude in C Sharp Minor by Rachmaninoff. and four of Brahms waltzes. The much-loved waltz in A flat made a fitting close to the program.
