Staff Corrcsponderft ('(immunity Meeting The regular meeting of Cowee Rural Community development Organization was held Thursday .night, June 4, at the school, with Troy Hurst; president, presiding. Mrs. S. C. Leatherman gave the devotional. The sign committee reported that the new signs had not been erected because of the bad weather. There was further discussion in regard to a first aid course, and Tommy Raby was appointed to be in charge of arrangements for this. A picnic was set for Thursday night, June 11, at the picnic grounds. This will be a working. A spray will be used to try to kill the kudzu vine. The group decided to present a play at the July meeting. The name of Edd Brodgen was ! drawn for the attendance prize, j He was not present, so the $1 was added to ttie building fund. 4 11 Meeting The Liberty 4-H Club held its regular meeting Wednesday after noon, June 3, at the home of Miss Betty Shepherd, with Miss Shep herd and Miss Earnestine Jones as hdstessCs. New record books were distribiit fed at the meeting and plans for helping with a community play were discussed. The hostesses made and served refreshments. Plans were made for a picnic to be held Sunday afternoon, fol lowing church services. Ten mem bers, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Elmore, went to Cowee Bald for the picnic. On their return, Mr. and Mrs. Elmore served ice cream to the group. School Starts Vacation Bible school began Monday morning, June 8, at the Liberty Baptist Church with 65 present. Mrs. J. D. Elmore is serving as principal, and Miss Orace Shep herd as secretary. The teachers and helpers Include: Beginners, Mrs. Ruby Potndexter and Mrs. Sue McConnell; Primaries, Mrs. Inez Hurst and Miss Evelyn Hall; Juniors, Mrs. Juanlta Allen and Miss Carla Hall; and Intermedi ates, Mrs. Ruth Shuler. Ga., where Mr. Bryson is employed. George Byrd was in Ashevillo Saturday and Sunday to attend the state V.P.W. convention. Nor ton Holbrook, attend the Saturday session. Sgt. and Mrs. Bryan Hurst, of Washington; D. C., are spending the week here with Sgt. Hurst's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Leo Hurst. Mrs. Raymond Womack and daughters, Evelyn and Kathy, of Augusta, Ga., visited Mrs. John H. Dalton and Carl Dalton last Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Burrell and his partner, Mr. Dillon, of Win ston-Salem. were here this week for the funeral of Mr. Burrell's brother, joe Albert Burrell, of Rabun Gap, Ga. They visited Mrs. Burrell's mother, Mrs. James R. Holbrook. Miss Cecile Gibson and Mrs. Robert Camm accompanied Mrs. Earl Camm to the Asheville-Hen dersonville Airport Sunday after noon, where she boarded a piano to return to her home in Illinois afer spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Gibson and family. . Mrs. Harry West and son, Ger ald, of Asheville, spent a few day? this week with her mother, Mrs. James R. Holbrook. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Hurst and granddaughter. Jo Cloer, visited Mr. and Mrs. Kay Bishop and family in Cuilowhee recently. Miss Janice Bishop returned home with them and spent a few days last ; week. State College, Raleigh, has return ed to his home here for the sum mer. Mr. and Mrs. Walton Smith and family, of Ashevllle, spent the week end at their cabin near the No. 1 up. Well? Bryson and son, Ronnie, returned to their home in Macon Ga., last Sunday after spending the week here. News has been received that the music club, to which Miss Annie Lee McGaha belongs on Guam, has recorded a program which will be on radio world-wide. Miss Claudette Leatherman and Jimmy Clark were among the seniors of Franklin High School who went to Washington. Mike Franklin went to Phoenix, Ariz., with his aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. B. R. It's 'Camp Time' Again For Macon 4-H Clubbers It's "camp time" once again for Macon County 4-H clubbers and 27 of them are enjoying a full week of activities at Camp Schaub, near Waynesyille. The local group left Monday afternoon and will return Sat urday. Adult leaders with them include Kenneth Perry and Mrs. Jessie D. Cabe, of the extension service, and Miss Mysa Craw ford. Cloggers Share Fame With Another Team Never let it be said that Ma con County's famous Smoky Mountain Cloggers aren't will ing to share their fame. When the Cloggers found they couldn't appear Saturday night on a new television show over WJHL, Channel 11, in Johnson City, Tenn., their man ager, Mrs. Lois Roberson, tele phoned Mrs. Esther Cunning ham, who manages another Ma con dance team, the Carson Cloggers. She wanted to know if the Carson group couldn't fill i the date. Well, they not only oould, but did, and from all reports put on an excellent performance for their home county, which Is rapidly developing the title of, "Square Dance Capital of the World." The Carson dancers opened the show and also were featured for a special number. Also appearing with Carson on the show were some Grand Ole Opry stars like Carl But ler, "Duke of Paduka", Helen Carter, and Mother Maybelle. The show originated at the Na tional Guard Armory and had a live audience. Friday night, the Carson Cloggers danced at Fontana for the . 4-H Regional Resources Development Conference, and tonight (Thursday) will dance at the 4-H camp, Camp Shaub, near Waynesville. dirt" right in the middle of town.
