Over The Countryside In Patton Community Mrs. Peart M. Stewart Staff Correspondent 30 At Meeting About 30 people attended the June meeting of the Patton Com munity Development Organization held at the community building last Tuesday nUht The Rev. Bert Crawford gave the devotional. At the business meeting, a dis cussion was held concerning work on the grounds of the community building, church, and cemetery. A "tacky party" was held follow ing the meeting. Every one had come as "someone else". Bill Krlckbaum and Martha Blaine created quite a sensation by ap pearing as 'Lil Abner and Daisy Mae. Then the entire group stood at rigid attention and saluted "Sergeant York", in the person of Richard Bingham. Erwin Pat ton, Judd Tallent. and Bert Craw ford acted as judges and gave first place in the adult division to Mrs. Anna Ledford and Ted Blaine. In the children's group. Jennifer Wells and Jerry Ledford won first place, with Ricky and Debbie Grasty in second place. A small prize was awarded each winner. String music was furnished by Judd Tallent and John D. and Johnny Wells. At the next meeting, which will be the first Tuesday night in July, a picnic supper will be held < before the meeting. Personals Mrs. Sallle Moore has returned home after spending several weeks in Webster with her daughter, Mrs. Joe Rhinehart, and her niece, Mrs. Lessie Pell. Mrs. Rhinehart and two sons. Jim and Joe Parker, brought her home. Miss Linda Leaford has returned home after a visit with her sister, I Mrs Kenneth Grasty, in Eliza bethton, Tenn. CT2 Robert M. Cabe, of the US. Navy. Mrs. Cabe and daugh ter, Melissa Marie, who have been stationed in London, England, re cently visited Seaman Cabe's aunt. Mrs. . Ted Blaine, and Mr. Blaine They are spending a 30 day leave with their parents Mr and Mrs. Claude Cabe. of the Otto community, and Mr. and Mis. Lester Waldroop, of the Car toogechaye community. After com pleting the leave, they will report to Fort George G. Meade. Md., for duty. Last Saturday night the Cabe's were honored with a party ant] shower at the home of Mrs. Ralph Norton Hostesses were Mrs. Charlie M. Rogers. Mrs. C. R. Cabe, and Mrs. Ted Blaine. Mrs. Kenneth Grasty and chil dren, Debbie and Ricky, and Miss Bobbie Mease, of Elizabethton. Tenn . recently visited Mrs. Gras 'ty's parents, Mr. and Mis. Sher man Led ford. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Cloer and ?family spent Sunday with Mr. cioer's lather. J. C Cloer, ir. Sylva. Mrs. Willie Greenwood and son. George, of Lawiencevilie. Wells Grove Baptist Church held its annual Bible School last week. Commencement was held Friday night at the church, Mrs. Cliff Cook served as principal. Ledford, and Mr. Ledford. Miss Gloria Jean Hedden. of the Patton 4-H Club, attended the Regional Resource Conference held last week at Fontana Dam Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baldwin and Mrs. Baldwin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Parrish, of Orange, Tex., are visiting Mr. Baldwin's sister, Mrs. John D. Wells, and other relatives in the county. Mr. and Mrs. John Moore and daughter. Brenda, of Blacksville, : S. C.. were visiting Mr. Moore's sister. Mrs. Harley Stewart, and Mr. Stewart one day last week. They also visited Mr. Moore's par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore, of the Bethel community. Mrs. B. C. Byrd and children. Elaine and Annette, of Bryson City, spent last Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Bertha Ledford. and her brothers, Vernon and Hoyt Ledford. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Stewart spent last Sunday with their son. Harley M. Stewart, and Mrs. Stewart in Tallulah Falls, Ga. The June meeting of the home demonstration club will be held at the home of Mrs. Charlie Brown on Highland Avenue in Franklin, Wednesday, June 17. at 7:30 p.m. A picnic supper will be held at this meeting Average attendance for the week was 35. The community development meeting will be held Thursday evening. June 11, at the Clark's Chapel church. Miss Rachel Brown Is spending a few days this week with friends in Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Tucker, of Statesville, visited Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Cook last week end. Mrs. Oeorge Stiles Is visiting her son. Nelson Stiles, in Arlington. Va.. and will also visit Henry [ Stiles, of Seattle. Washington, and ' Mrs. Hermie Stiles, of Everett, Wash. | Jack Brown, of Jackson. Tenn , spent a three week's vacation with j his mother, Mrs. Mary Brown, and j his brothers, Wiley and Robert, and their families. From here he went to visit his sister, Mrs. George Euens, in Mercersburg, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Howell, of Bishop. Ga? were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ray last week. Fred Stiles, of the U. S. Air Force, who is stationed in Little Rock, Ark.. Is visiting his parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Stiles. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Otto Mc Clure recently were Mr. and Mrs. James Curry and family, of Labra dor. They will return to California where Mr. Curry will be stationed. Mrs. James Rhodes and daugh Manfred Emmrich Receives Degree In Economics Manfred Emmrich, son of Mr and Mrs. Walter Emmrich. was graduated from Davidson College Monday. June 1. with an A. B. degree in economics. At the same time, he received his commission as second lieuten- 1 ant in the Army and has been assigned to the Army Intelligence Service. At present he is spending some time with his parents at their home at Panorama Courts. The Emmrlch's son. Smith, of Franklin, a rising senior at the University of North Carolina, will participate in the summer Pacific cruise for Naval R.O.T.C. students.
