New Ridgecrest Baptist
Church Dedicated Sunday
By MRS. BETTY CRAWFORD
iStaff Correspondent)
The new Ridgecrest Baptist
Church building was dedicated
Sunday, June 7. with the pastor,
the Rev. Thad R. Dowdle, deliver
ing the dedication sermon.
This is the second building the
church has occupied since it was
founded in 1925.
*
?Charlie Smith gave the land on
wtiich the original church was
built. The old church was torn
down and the present one was
erected on the same site. While
it was under construction, mem
bers held services in Crawford's
Service Station buildings and,
therefore, never missed a servio;.
The building fund was started
in October 1952, and work began
on the building in October 1956
The actual amount of money spent
from the fund was only $16,000,
while the estimated value of the
structure is $30,000. This was du?
to donations of materials and
labor by individuals and busi
nesses.
The building consists of a
sanctuary and two classrooms up
stairs, and six classrooms and two
bathrooms are located in the base
ment. Three of the downstairs
classrooms can be opened up to
form the kitchen and social activ
ity room. The oil-burning heating
plant is located in the basement
furnace room and was installed at
a cost of $1,650.
