Bull Run Battle grounds of Manassas, Luray Caverns, and drove down Skyland Drive through the Shenandoah Valley. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Reynolds and three sons, and Mrs. Minnie Clayton, of Travelers Rest, S. C? spent the week end with Mrs. R. D. Brendle. Week end visitors of the Frank Brendles and Mr. and Mrs. Mack Sanders were Mr. and Mrs. How ard Green, of Greenville, S. C. Mrs. Sanders is ill in an Asheville hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Bailey, of Tullahoma, Tenn.. brought Mrs. Delia Mae Brendle home. She had been visiting them. While here they visited the Rev. and Mrs. G. A. Cloer. Spending two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Sellers are their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Sellers, and children. of Vienna, Va. Harold Thompson and Shirley Holland are spending this week in Michigan. The Rev. and Mrs. Lee Craw ford spent a few days this week in Calhoun, Ga? visiting Mrs. Crawford's sister, Mrs. Frank Wafraven, and Mr. Walraven. Week end guests of Mrs, Myrtle Watkins were W. L. Watkins, of Atlanta. Ga , Miss Mae Foster, of Toccoa. Ga.. Mrs. C. R. Brown ing, of Bryson City, Mrs. Lon Dehart, of Bryson City, and Miss Ethel Rankin, of Seneca. S. C. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hop kins during last week were Mr. and Mrs. Jud Shope, of Lavonla, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Hop j kins, of Gastonia, and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rhodes, also of Gas ! tonia. Spending the week end at home were Hairy Thompson and a friend, Don Cornwell, whose home is in Ohio. Both are in the U.S. J Navy, stationed aboard the U.S.S. Essex. The Essex's home port is j in Mayport, Fla. Mrs. Sue Davis and Mary Sue Clayton, of Sylva, visited Mr. hnd Mrs. Jud Morgan one day last week. Mary Sue remained to spend the night. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Brendle last Wednesday were Mrs. Lucille Pitts, and son, Ronny, and Tommy Flowers, of Greenville, S. C. Sunday guests of Mrs. Jesse Thompson were Mrs. R. V. Cartoogechaye 4-H Club To Exhibit Collection At Fair The Cartoogechaye Junior 4-H Club met July 4 at the community building. Four members were present. Norman Ouffey has returned to his work in Pontiac, Mich., after spending several days here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Alec Angel, of Brevard, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Otto McClure and other relatives. Miss Mary Byrd and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Persuer visited Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Keener last week. Mr. and Mrs. Weyman Under wood visited relatives in Atlanta. MISS LEDBETTER WEDS STANFIELD ON JUNE 27 Miss Geneva Patricia Ledbetter. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Law rence R. Ledbetter, and Mac Davis Stanfield. son of Mr. and Mrs. David Stanfield, were married in the Carson Chapel Methodist Church Saturday evening. June 27,. at 6 o'clock. The Rev. R. D. Stevenson, pas tor of the groom, officiated, using * the double-ring ceremony. Mrs. Harry Higgins, pianist, presented a program of wedding music. The bride, given in marriage by I her father, had as her only at- j tendant. Miss Leota Beck. James I Stanfield served as his brother's I best man. Ushers were Lt. Larry ! B. Ledbetter and Max Ledbetter, brothers of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Stanfield. both graduates of Franklin High School, are now employed at the Franklin Hosiery Company. They will make their home on Route 5. Franklin. August, and to exhibit its entomol ogy collection at the county fair next month. The club has a hobby class Monday afternoons. Last Monday, members went to the Highlands Biological Station. ! The president is Mark Maddox and the vice-president is David Tripp. The secretary-treasurer Is I George Crockett, and the reporter is Cathy Lane. Song leaders are Shirley Battles and A1 Slagle. The National Science Foundation research par lcipation program for teacher raining, conducted by the High lands Biological Station, formally opened July S. This program is designed to pro vide research experience, under the guidance of experienced in vestigators. for teachers, of biolo gy in small colleges. It will con tinue until August 15. Teachers selected for the pro gram are Miss Jane Holt. Catawba College, who is working on birds under the direction of Dr. Eugene P. Odum: Melvin Conrad. Emory Junior College, who will work on mosses under Dr. Henry S. Con ard; and Mrs. Ruth Slentz. Wes leyan College, who will work on salamanders under the direction of Dr. Thelma Howell, director. Included in the program for this group of biologists at the sta'tion will be a discussion of the undergraduate biology special problems course, led by Dr. Howell The discussion is scheduled for July 10, at 8 p_m , In the Reinke Library of the Coker Laboratory Building.
