Meet the Franklin All-Stars,
'the men who make up one of the
best baseball teams to decorate a
diamond here in many years.
The top man, and one who has
been closely identified with base
ball here for more than 30 year f.
is J. D. Gibson, who is serving
this season as president of the
Tri-County League. J. D. has
breathed life into many baseball
teams over the years and as far
as he's concerned it's the Number
1 sport. He works for the U.S.
FEDERAL LAND BANK LOANS
Federal Land Bank loans for, farmers in Macon
County are available through the Asheville Na
tional Farm Loan Association, 149 College Street,
Asheville, N. C. In addition to the regular type

Federal Land Bank will be in Franklin from 1 to
2 p; m., in the Agriculture Building, the second
Wednesday in August, the second and fourth
Wednesdays in September and the second and
fourth Wednesdays in October. This representa
tive will be in position to discuss loans and ac
cept applications.

A Winn-Dixie employe. Bill Van
hook. is another fellow who lives
baseball and he divides his play
ing duties between the outfield
and infield. He's been with the
All-Stars for six years. Bill's mar
ried and has two children.
Hugh E>owdie, another Winn
Dixie worker, holds down first
base for the team. He's married j
and has been playing with the i
All-Stars for three years.
A 10-year man with the All
Stars is C. D. Corbin. A set fixer
at Franklin Hosiery Company. C.
D. played baseball four years in
high school. His team chores are
split between pitching and the
outfield. He's married and has
two children.
Another Franklin Hosiery work
er on the team is Bobby Gregory,
a bachelor who plays in the out
field for the All-Stars. Bobby has
been on the team for three years.
Harold Corbin, who's been with
the All-Stars for four years, is
co-owner and manager of the H
and J Restaurant. His post is in
the out-field and he's also the
team representative for the Tri
County League. Harold played two
years in high school and is mar
ried.
A man with some teaching in
his future is Grady Corbin, a four
year veteran with the All-Stars.
Grady is practice teaching this
summer at Western Carolina Col
lege. He played three years in
high school and two years in the
Army. He's married and has one

two years in high school, two
years in the Army, and has been
with the All-Stars six years. He's

and Is playing his second season
with the All-Stars. He's married
and played baseball for two years
in high school.
Roger Seay plays the infield
and pitches. Assistant manager at
Winn-Dixie, he played three years
in high school and has been with
the All-Stars five years. He's mar
ried.
Jerry Sutton is a dairy farmer
who takes time off for games. He
has been with the All-Stars five
years, played two years in college,
and three years in high school.
Jerry is married, has one child,
and pitches and is an infielder.
The Rev. Earl Crowe Is a Meth
odist minister who loves baseball
A pitcher, he is married and has
two children. This is his first
season with the team.
Vic Teague is another dairy
farmer turned ball player. He is

crystals, say of tourmaline, garnet,
apatite, or others, and will deli
cately mount a cluster in a box
where the material must be viewed
with a magnifying glass or micro
scope.
Mr Perloff has an outstanding j
collection of micromounts. his |
specimens having come from all
parts of the world. He is an excel- j
married, played four years in high
school, and has four years with j
the All-Stars. He's an infielder.
A young man who stepped up
to the All-Stars from the Babe j
Ruth League here is Clarence
? Red i Seay. the youngest mem
ber of the team. Sixteen, he's em
ployed by Winn-Dixie and plays
in the infield.
Another newcomer to the All
Btars in the last month is Dr.
j Tom Huff, a native of Buncombe
| County. A dentist, he is married
and has three children. He played
four years in high school, two
years in college, and hopes to be
with trte All-Stars for many years
to come. Tom pitches and plays in
the infield.
