Brady's BLARNEY By A Brady Called J. P. Some people have the knack of knowing when to keep their mouth shut. Although I talk a lot. I've always thought I (ell into this category when the chips were down. Apparently I don't. A while back, captivated, no doubt, by the gaiety of a society event I was attending. I chattered like a magpie with everyone. 1 was pleasant, vivacious, and (I thought' entertaining. My memory was sharp and I recalled some thing nice to say to everyone I metr I particularly remember that one young woman (not from here' was supposed to get married soon FREE demonstration Kj with Hi* NEW HOM ELITE NOW Is a Good Time to Recondition Your Power Saw We Are Well Equipped To Serve You FRANKLIN Power Saw Service Depot St. Franklin Phone LA 4-2916 Customer Parking Alongside Now Open for Business THE PRINCESS BEAUTY SALON OWNED AND OPERATED BY GRACE FOUTS AND HELEN TALLENT Located Upstairs Over Scesamon's Furniture Store To Celebrate Our Opening, We Will Have . "Well, I guess you're next.'' I said pleasantly to her. "No," she said. "I'm not." "Oh. but I'm sure that I heard somewhere that you are getting married." I pressed glibly. ''I am not getting married." she answered coldly. (At this point, her chilly answer should have stayed me. should have jingled a little alarm in my head or something. But no, I was completely Intoxicated by the congeniality of the afternoon. Like an idiot. I chattered on.> "I've got an excellent memory." I assured her. "And I KNOW that you're supposed to get married." She fixed a steely eye on me. her chin came up and out. and she bit off her words: "I AM NOT GETTING MARRIED!" With that she turned and walked off into the crowd. Taken back somewhat by her behavior, I drifted into another conversation ? an enlightening conversation. It was all about how the fellow this girl was supposed to many had left her at the church the week before. ? Jpb ? With luck and some good weather, today will be a red-letter one in Macon County. It will bring a fleet of vacationers from Florida. They'll be flying, not driving, which makes the situation unusual. Even more unusual is the fact that they'll be flying here to spend a week end digging for rubies in Cowee Valley. Officially, the event has a name: Pilots Ruby Rendezvous. This will be the second year it has been held. This is the "criti cal" year, however. Last year's was a success on novelty alone. It must make it this year on merit. The success will depend in large' measure on Maconlans. not on the visitors, who. after all, could be flying to Cuba, or Mexico, or some other place . Pilots Ruby Rendezvous is one of the greatest single pro motions (free, at that> ever heap ed on this resort county. The publicity it has received in nation al publications alone in the past year couldn't be bought. Good publicity is priceless; and good publicity helps to make an area grow. Therefore, it is important that all of us "sell" our mountains to the visitors. The best way to do this is to be yourself, friendly i and courteous as always. The large number attending the fly-In could cause some of you to be impatient, so remember, Macon County invited them to come here and it is up to Maconians to make them feel at home. One act of discourtesy, or a hasty remark, could undo much of the good that has been done in the past year. Directly, or indirectly everyone j in business in this county stands to profit from Pilots Ruby Ren- j dezvous. I But above all, the one that will I benefit the most is Macon County. I i a struggling tourist area that is | | finding the competition tough to j meet in the tourist world. ? jpb? Heard a lot of "amens" to last j week's letter about the condition of the rest rooms in the county courthouse. ? jpb ? Have you heard the story about the fellow whose Jealous wife ac cuses him of running around with bald-headed women when she fails to find hairs on his coat? ? jpb ? SOME ADVISE: Instead of cry ing over split milk, go milk an other cow. Taking a soil sample is only one step in the right direction; ypu must follow through with the fertilization and liming recom mendations. ONE POLICY COVERS ALL NATIONWWE'S new FAMILY POLICY ?
