Miss Smith Is Teaching Children Of American Servicemen In Korea A young woman who has her roots and sentiments deep in Ma con County is now teaching in far-flung comers of the earth, and enjoying every minute of it, as her letters to home folks amply testify. V ? '' Miss Rebecca Smith, daughter of the late L. J. Smith and Mrs. Gertrude West Smith, now of Cullowhee, is the niece of Miss Vonnie West, Clyde West, Dr. J. L. West, and Miss Clare Owens, all of the West Mills section of Macon County. She is now teach ing for the American Department of Elementary Schools in Seoul, Korea. Miss Smith has been with the American Department, which maintains schools for . American dependents of service men station ed In areas outside of the United States and on bases located within the United States, for five years. Her first assignment was Ger many. Then she taught at Paris Island, S. C., and then went to Japan for a couple of years ? her last aslgnment before Korea. Incidentally this is the first time the American government has maintained schools In Korea. Rollman Resigns 'Bootstrap' Announces Arrival Of Traveling Trailer Heinz Rollman. founder and president of the Western North Carolina Industrial Development Corporation, has submitted his resignation to the directors of the corporation. Mr. Rollman, in a detailed state ment. explains that he feels that his resignation from the non-profit organization will be in the best in terests of the organization so that under no circumstances the ac tivities of this corporation could be labeled as political. He recently announced plans for again runn ing for Congress. Mr. Rollman explained that "Bootstrap", which was born a little over a year and a half ago for the purpose' of attracting more industries to settle in Western North Carolina, has by no means achieved its goal, but has made good beginning.
