Coming Up
For Veterans
Veterans were reminded by the
Veterans Administration of cer
tain deadlines (or veterans' bene
fits coming up.
The nearest general deadline is
the one for World War n veterans
in getting GI loans. World War
II veterans have until July 25.
1960 to apply for GI loans and
VA has an additional year in
f which to process applications for
guaranty or insurance.
Veterans with service during
the Korean conflict period have
until February 1. 1065 to apply
for GI loans.
In the field of education. Korea
veterans have three years from the
date of their discharge to begin
GI training. They have eight
years from the date of discharge
In which to complete the training.
VA's entire training program
for Korean veterans has a final
deadline o[ January. 1965.
In the vocational rehabilitation
program for service-connected dis-,
abled veterans of Korean service,
there Is no deadline by which
training must commence, but
veterans who were discharged be
fore August 20, 1954 must begin
In time to complete their training
by August 20. 1963. Those who left
the armed forces after August 20.
1954 must begin in time to com
plete their training by January 31.
1984, or 9 years after their date
of separation, whichever date
comes earlier.
VA pointed out that there are
no deadlines applicable for medi
cal care, hospitalization or domi
ciliary care. Similarly, there are
no deadlines for applications for
compensation 'or pension.
The new pension law, however,
provides that veterans and their
dependents receiving pension must
make an election before July 1,
1960 whether they choose to re
main under the existing pension
system or go under the new
scheme.

Sgt. Bobby P. Henry, whose wife,
Evelyn, lives on Route 1, High
lands. N. C., recently completed
the radio Instrument repair course
at the Army's Quartermaster-Sig
nal School here.
Sergeant Henry was trained to
repair Instruments used In the
detection and measuring of radio
activity.
Regularly assigned as an elec
tronic maintenance specialist in
the 56th Artillery's Battery A in
Oermershiem, the sergeant enter
ed the Army in 1950 and arrived
overseas last December on this
tour of duty.
The 26-year-old soldier, son of
Mr. and Mrs, Robert D. Henry, of
Route 5, Franklin, attended Frank
lin High School.
The size of North Carolina
farms as measured by crop acres
harvested has changed little since
1900.
Quality milk Is produced on the
farm, not In the processing plant.
