The Macon County A.S.C. office will accept applications for new grower bur lev allotments through Febr.i-rr 1", according to Siier Sla?)e. chairman of the county committee, v. hich administers the program. LA 4-3322 Franklin, N. C. 1. The applicant must have had at least two year's experience within the past five years growing burley either as a farm operator or tenant. 2. The operator must live on and obtain 50 per cent or more of his livelihood from the farm covered by the application. 3. The farm shall not have been a part of another farm during the past 5 years for which an old farm burley allotment was estab lished. 4. The applicant shall not own or operate any other farm for which a 1960 allotment is estab lished. 5. The farm shall be operated by the owner. Burley Figures The A.S.C. office has recently summarized the 1959 production data for Macon burley producers. A total of 191 farmers harvested 56.07 acres. Total pounds market ed was 104.524. The average yield per acre for the county was i;882 pounds. Five producers in Macon County have an agreement wltn the North Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station. The total har vested acreage lrom these five farms was 1.45 and the total pounds marketed was 2.970. The total allotment acreage for burley tobacco in Macon County on 231 farms is 70.19 acres. Frank Nolen Takes Job In Virginia; Gaston Graduate Frank Nolen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nolen. of the Car toogechaye community, completed his studies at the Gaston Tech Institute in Gastonia on January 29. After spending last , week with his parents. Mr, Nolen left for Waynesboro, Va.. where he has. ac cepted a job with General Electric. Boy Scouts Handle Presbyterian Service Boy Scouts took charge of services Sunday at the Presby terian church in honor of "Assem bly YOuth Sunday" and "Nation al Boy Scout Week." Three Explorer Scouts. Charles Stank?. Fred Bulgin. and Douglas Slaiile led the service and others were in attendance. These Scouts are members of the local Explorer Post 221.
