' Copies may be obtained from the county agricultural agent or by wrtilng to the Department of Agricultural Information, N. C. State College, Raleigh, N. C. Information in the folder Is based on extensive corn variety tests conducted by State College each year. The information was collected for the folder by A. D. Stuart, agronomy specialist for the N. C. Agricultural Extension Service. State College does not recom mend that North Carolina farmers plant a particular variety of hy brid corn. The college does provide information, however, to help farmers decide which variety of corn Is best for their farm. All information In the current folder is based on two years of tests. The state was broken down into five areas for test purposes: northern mountain, southern mountain, piedmont southern coastal plain, and northern coastal plain. The folder contains a map which enables a farmer to see at a Rlance which area he falls into. Separate tests were conducted for white and yellow varieties. And in the northern coastal plain area, the hybrids were also broken down into short and full season varie ties. Each variety listed in the folder is evaluated on the basis of yield pe racre, moisture percentage, lodged percentage, ear height, ears per 100 stalks, exposed ear tips, and quality. An estimated 435,000 people left North Carolina farms between 1950 and 1960. THANK'Q to THE F1NE work of 1 FRANKLIN'S VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT. AND OUR OTHER FRIENDS. WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS USUAL.
