The second phase of the demon stration school work Is prepared for handicapped or retarded chil dren. In this case, children will live in dormitories and at least one parent will be enrolled in special education courses at the "ollege. While the children are in classes with specially trained teachers, the parents are attend ing college classes where they re ceive instruction and training in specialized care for their children, Tn such cases, enrollment is ne cessarily limited for lack of dormi tory space. The mo?t recent addition to th" summer program is the special "dueat.ion for academically talen^ pd children which is under the general supervision of Dr. . C. D Kitlian. Children are selected fnv attendance in these classes on the basis of superior achievement in their own schools, superior academic ability, and social and emotional maturity. They live in dormitories with counselors and supervisors trained in this work. A special class in Spanish will be taught at the fourth grade level. Those enrolled for this class will also commute from the sur rounding area. Dr. Morrill said the normal cur riculum of the demonstration school will permit enrollment of children from first grade through certain areas of high, school work.
