An Open Letter To the People of Macon County A number of the good people of Macon County have asked me what my position is, and how I feel about certain issues. Being aware that "the fly who buzzes the loudest ? gets swatted . first," I will try to answer these questions at this time. First of all I would like to state that I will uphold the .plat form selected by the people of Macon County. As I have said before any public official is a servant of the people. It is my be lief that he can only serve as such if he lays aside all hopes of personal' gain. The main issue in the 1961 North Carolina General Assembly will be the school bill, which promises to be the largest in the history of North Carolina. As all of the 'candidates for Governor have stated education is their main interest. Being the father of four children, 1. also, am interested in the schools, and will fight to get a larger share of the budget for Macon County. The next issue is that of the state revenue bill. That is a nice way of saying taxes, if there is one. As I have been in the ac counting profession for the past 14 years, this is right down my alley. 1 know only too well the burden that has been growing on the people. Every time the General Assembly has met in the past 13 years, there is a new tax added or an old one increased. We also have a local tax problem, that of the penalty on our prop erty tax ; which was passed at the last General Assembly. If the people see fit to elect me I can assure you it will be changed. If there is any question you have regarding how I feel about any campaign issues ? just stop me or send word for me to come by. I hope to get around to meet all of you people, but time has a way of slipping by. As the sign in the restaurant read, "If you like the service tell your friends? if not tell me." This is all subject to the Democratic Primary. W. A. (Bill) Cox Candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives Franklin, N. C.
