Commencement Set I
Tuesday night, May 31, has been
set by Cullasaja School for Its
commencement exercises. Thirty
three eighth graders will receive
certificates of promotion. The pro
gram starts at 8 o'clock and will
consist of recitations by members
of the class; music by Mrs. L. J.
Neal; and a talk by a local min
ister. At that time, perfect at
tendance certificates, will be given
to 27 students.
The public is invited.
School News
With the close of school for
the summer next Tuesday, stu
dents are busy at Cullasaja mow
ing lawns, trimming shrubbery,
and making the school grounds
look as neat as possible in their
spare time.
Mrs. Pauline Cable has been out
of school because of the illness
of her mother. Mrs. C. T. Bryson
has been substituting for her.
Lunches will not be served next
r
week.
Monday, the cancer fund drive
was started at Cullasaja School
and will continue through this
week.
Observe '4-H Sunday'
Sugarfork Baptist Church ob
served "4-H 8unday" on May 22
with a group of 4-H'ers giving
their program at Sunday school
assembly. They led the song serv
ice, read scripture, led in. prayer
and recited poems, besides giving
several short talks.
Bethel Methodist Church also
observed "4-H Sunday" this past
Sunday. The program, held just
before Sunday school classes, was
under the direction of Maxine
Norris. The 4-H'ers led the songs,
li:d in prayer, had scripture read
ing, and talks.

Jeeus", was under the direction of
Mr*. Prttchard Russell.
Alt-Day Meeting
Hlgdoovllle Home Demonstra
tion Club met last Thursday with
Mrs. Alfred Holley. In the morn
ing. the group studied the 'Care
of Furniture and Rugs", with
Mrs. Florence 8herrlll giving the
demonstration. Mrs. Mabel Swan,
assistant home economics agent,
led the aftemoon? demonstration
on "Eating to Stay Young" and
"Hanging Pictures".
Eight were present. Mrs. Holley.

The June meeting will be at the
picnic grounds.
Flan Homecoming
Plans are being made at Bethel
Methodist Church for homecoming
day services Sunday, June 5, with
Dr. L. B. Hayes, assistant pastor,
speaking. A basket lunch will be
served at the noon hour.
Plan '4-H Sunday'
Sunday, May 29, will be "4-H
Sunday" at the Higdonville Bap
tist Church. The program, origin
ally scheduled far May 22, was
postponed until the 29th because
the 4-H'ers were busy with their
food demonstrations and did not
have an opportunity to prepare
their program.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Early and
thei rson, Claude, of Marion,
spent the week end with Mrs. J.
L. Clark and other relatives here.
Sunday, the Clark family gathered
at the Cullasaja picnic area for a
farewell dinner for Claude, who
is going into service this week.
About 40 attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Carpen
ter and small son, of Panama City.
Fla., visited Mrs. J. L. Clark Sun
day and attended the farewell
dinner for Claude Early, who is a
first cousin of Mrs. Carpenter.
Al/c Doyle Clark arrived home
Sunday after spending the past
year in Greenland, where he serv
ed with the U. S. Air Force. After
spending a 20-day leave with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley
Clark, Airman Clark will report to
Homestead, Fla., for duty. Mr. and
Mrs. Clark met their son in Ashe
villa Sunday afternoon at the air
port.

David Wyatt has been a patient
at Anaet Hospital, where he *nder
went an appendectomy but
is now recuperating at the
home of his sister and brother-in

Mr. and Mrs. John Moore and
daughter, B rends, of BlacksvUle,

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Moore, and Mr.
Moore's brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Win die Moore, of
Bethel, Thursday of last week.

Teem Saturday were Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Teem and son, Larry, from
Georgia. Mrs. Teem is home after
spending a few days last week in
Angel Hospital for treatment.
While here, the visitors also
stopped by to see Mrs. George
Frady, who has been ill,

Here from Asheville Saturday
to visit Ed Crisp were his son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E.
G. Crisp, and family.
Miss Katherine Ayers, who was
confined to Ansel Hospital several
days last week, returned home
Friday. She is reported to be show
ing some improvement.

from St. Petersburg, Fla., to visit

Last Thursday, Miss Patty Mur
ray and Lee Thompson arrived
from Southern Missionary College,
Collegedale, Tenn., for a visit with
Mr. Thompson's grandmother,
Mrs. Fred Thompson, enroute to
their respective homes in Shin
ston. W. Va., and Irwin, Pa. They
left Sunday.
Sunday, Pat Cable and Miss
Marie Jennings visited Mr. Cable's
aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Tal
madge Sherrill, and Mr. Cable's
sister. Mrs. Lenora Estes, at Rob
binsville.
