Co nun's And Coin's In Cowee Community MISS CECILE GIBSON Staff Correspondent R?by Resigns The P.-T. A. of Cowee School met Monday night, September 19. at the school. BUI Raby resigned as president because of his work with the retarded children. Mrs. Paul Holbrook was elected to suc ceed him. Mrs. L. R. Mason. Jr., resigned as secretary and Mrs. Ray Wo mack was named to the post. A Hallowe'en carnival was dis cussed and a committee appoint ed to make plans. Mrs. Ed Brog den Is chairman and members are Mrs. Paul Holbrook, Mrs. Rozzelle McCoy, Mrs. Ed Sheffield, Jimmie Scruggs, and Charles Cabe. The date of the P.-T. A. meeting was changed from the third Mon day night to the third Tuesday night of each month. Mrs. Moody's second grade won the $3 prize for having the most parents present. Fair Discussed Cowee Home pemonstration Club held its monthly meeting in the school library Thursday after noon, September 22. A discussion .was held in re gard to the county fair and the harvest sale to be held in connec tion with the Fair. Mrs. Mabel Swan gave a dem onstration on the importance of making a will. Church Items Everyone is invited to attend homecoming at Cowee Baptist Church Sunday, October 2. The Rev. George Cloer, former pastor, will be the speaker at 11 o'clock. A picnic lunch will be served at the lunch hour and there will be singing in the afternoon. At the close of the study course at Cowee Baptist Church last Fri day night, the workers were pre setted gifts by the Rev. Clyde Collins. pastor. Refreshments were served with Mrs. Frank Gib son and Mrs. T. M. Rlckman in charge. The monthly meeting of the of ficers and teachers of Cowee Bap tist Church was held Tuesday night, September 27. "Family night" was observed at Cowee Baptist Church Wednes day night, September 28. Choir practice also was held to prepare for the special singing ^t home coming Sunday. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ross and two sons, of Crewe, Va., visited Mrs. Ross' mother, Mrs. S. C. Leather man, and other relatives last week. Last Thursday. Mrs. Lucy Leatherman and Mis. Burke Cole visited Mr. Cole at the Veterans Hospital at Oteen. Mr. Cole re turned home with them. Mrs. Elsie Hurst spent last week in Sylva with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carden, and other relatives. Phillip L. Franklin, | whose wife, JoAnn, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. David O. Franklin, live on Route 1, Franklin, N. C.. recently qualified as an expert in firing the carbine while serving with the 93d Engineer Company here. Pfc Franklin, a crane operator in the compp.ny in Nellingen, en tered the Army in November 1959 and completed basic combat train ing at Port Jackson. S. C.
