Ramblin' Around Cullasaja and Higdonville MISS MARIE JENNINGS Staff Correspondent Missionettes Meet The Mlssionettes of the Cul lasaja Assembly of God Church met at the home of Mrs. Ver non Bryson last Friday night for a business meeting and to make Christmas gifts for shut ins. Sixteen were present. Otela Holland presided. Following the business meeting, the group made small gifts to pre sent to shut-ins for Christmas presents. School News last Wednesday, before get ting out for the Thanksgiving holidays, the children enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and the trimmings in the school lunchroom. Mrs. Pearl Stewart, a form er teacher, was a welcome vis itor at Cullasaja School last Wednesday. The first grade class was visited by its grade mother, Mrs. Kenneth Clark, last Wed nesday and she helped them make turkeys from apples and raisins. The children enjoyed making and then eating the turkeys. The school has ordered ap proximately $600 worth of science and mathematical equipment. Tills Is being paid for by the county and federal government jointly. Approximately $500 worth of new library books .are being ordered. The P.-TA. recently voted to give $200 for library books and the other $300 will come from county funds. The school has ordered a new 50-star flag. To Meet Cullasaja Community Deve lopment Organization will meet Tuesday night, December 6, at the school. Projects for the coming year will be selected. Plans will be made for erecting a Christmas scene. All members are urged to at tend. Christmas Meeting The Cullasaja Home Demon stration Club will hold Its all day Christmas meeting Friday, December 2, at the home of Mrs. C. T. Bryson, beginning at 10:30 in the morning. The group will have a cov ered dish luncheon and will ex change Christmas gifts. Community To Meet Higdonville Community De velopment Organization will meet Thursday night, Decem ber 8, at the Higdonville Bap tist Church. The community's . 4-H club will present a Christmas pro gram. Shows Slides At prayer services at Higdon ville Baptist Church Wednes day night of last week, the Rev. C. T. Taylor was a guest and showed slides of the 43 churches in the county and told about the work of each church. About thirty attended. Bible Study The women of the Sugar fork Baptist Church met last Wednesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Bryson for their monthly Bible Study meeting. They studied the 100th Psalm under the leadership of Mrs. Jesse S. Cunningham. Personals Miss Linda Raby, of Atlanta, Ga? spent Thanksgiving Vith her sister, Mrs. Larry Estes, and Mr. Estes. Here from Asheville Thanks giving day were Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Crisp and family. They visited Mr. Crisp's father, Ed Crisp, and other relatives and friends in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Deal made a business trip to Atlanta Saturday. Friday night, the Rev. and Mrs. Fred N. Phone LA 4-2916 News From Nantahala The Bethel Hill Baptist Church is raising money to fin ish building the parking area and get water to the church. The Baptist Training Union at the Briartown Baptist Church closed Sunday night for the winter months, but hopes to start again In the spring. Sunday. November 27. at two o'clock at the Bethel Hill Bap tist Church, Austin Jacobs was ordained as a minister. The presbytery was composed of the Rev. Carl Denny, pastor of the church, the Rev. Francis Postell, pastor of the Briar town Baptist Church, and the Rev. Herschell Mason. Others assisting were C. B. Owenby. Walter Morgan, and Buford Owenby. Mr. Jacobs has been a mem ber of the Bethel Hill Church for several years and has been song leader. When the old water pump burned out at the Nantahala High School, the maintenance crew from Franklin worked over the week end to install a new one for the school. ? Miss Olestie Gasaway spent last week end visiting relatives in Ashevllle. Miss Cynthia Queen, who is enrolled in the Memorial Mis sion Hospital School of Nursing In Ashevllle, spent the Thanks giving holidays at home with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Owenby. Bobby Denny, of Glenville., was visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Denny, this week. Mr. Denny is a teacher and basketball coach at the Glenville High School. Airman third class Jackie Lee Passmore, who is stationed at Myrtle Beach, S. C.. spent last weekend with his wife, the former Miss Mildred Gasaway. Mrs. Passmore accompanied him to Asheville to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Passmore, and other relatives. Mrs. Be ul ah Wishon was dis charged from the District Me morial Hospital in Andrews Mashburn , Miss Jessie Marie Mashburn, Mrs. Lester Holland, and Miss Delores Holland vis ited Mrs. Bonnie George and Mr. and Mrs. Orin Osborne in Aiken, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Thompson, of Collegedlale, Tenn.. arrived Thanksgiving day for a visit with Mr. Thompson's grand mother. Mrs. Fred Thompson. They returned home Sunday. Andy Berry, of Gastonia. visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Berry, over the week end. Here recently to visit Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Price were Mr. Price's niece*, Mrs. Buck Wat son. and Mr. Watson, of Dallas, and Miss Brenda Lee and her fiance. Bobby Hudspeth, of Gastonia. Mrs. A. C. Moore and daugh ters, Linda and Karen, went to Elizabethton. Tenn., to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with Mrs. Moore's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Q. Ritchie. Pat Cable returned Monday afternoon from a trip to Lake land, Fla? where he visited Mr. and Mrs. John Sikes and children. Patty and Jimmy. Vincent Jones was moved from the District Memorial Hospital in Andrews to an Asheville hospital this week. Mrs. Nola Douthit and chil dren, Ronnie and Benny, have returned home after spending the week in High Point visiting her children, Mr. and Mrs. Ro bert Gasaway and Clyde O. Douthit. Mr. Douthit accom panied them on their return home. Mr. and Mrs. Olsen Grant and daughter, Sybil, spent last week end in Georgia visiting relatives. Tommy Pendergrass, of Dan ville, Va., spent last week end visiting relatives in the Kyle t community. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bark er and son. Assistance is now being given for lime to be used on old pasture or hay. and also on land to be seeded next spring. Cost-sharing is also be ing given cm fertilizer to im prove the stand of grass and clover. The money remaining in the pool at this time will be used on a oome-first serve basis. Cards Mailed The 1960 bur ley tobacco mar keting cards have been prepar ed and mailed to Macon bur ley producers. The farmers have certain responsibilities concern ing the marketing card. The main thing is the card Is prop erty of the UJB. Department of Agriculture and must be return ed to the county AS.C. office as soon as sales have been com pleted for the year. McCall Child Dies Brenda Dianne McCall, two year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. McCall, died Saturday morning, November 26, at the home of an uncle, Conley Owens, In the Bethel community. Funeral services were con ducted Monday at 2:30 p. m? at the Bethel Methodist Church by the Rev. M. O. Perkins and the Rev. Fred Sorrells. Burial was in the church cemetery.
