Hemp Orgaizes
Last Tuesday night the citizens of
Hemp organized a Community Club
and voted to have a Community Fair
on October third. There is much en
thusiasm among the citizens of this
community and we received many
special premiums and advertisements
from the business men to make the
community fair a success.
Community Club Federate
At a meeting of representatives
from six community clubs in theCoun-
ty last Wednesday at Jackson Springs
it was decided to federate the entire
Community Club organizations of
Moore Cdunty.
In addition to special meetings of
the various clubs it was voted that
we have a regular monthly program
and the following subjects will be dis
cussed in each community meeting
during the following months: July,
Sings; September, Agricultural Pro
gram; October, Community Fairs;
November, Horticulture and Land
scape Gardening; December, Farm
and Home Comforts
We hope to have a speaker for each
of these club metings for the various
programs.
STAY ON THE JOB
In every community, and the com
munity around Vass, is no exception
there are dozens of farmers who are
either getting ready to quit farming
entirely or wishing they could. The
reason is the extremely low price of
farm products and the high cost of
implements and fertilizer, as well as
clothing, etc. In every period of dis
tress there are always a lot of “sum
mer soldiers” who give up at the first
frost. And it is they who help to im
prove conditions for the man who
sticks on the job. There are sure to
be hard times in any business, and
agriculture is no exception. But the
real business man, the real farmer
is the one who both looks ahead and
prepares ahead. He is the one we de
pend upon to prevent a calamity, and
there are still many of his kind left.
So we may safely predict that present
conditions will not last long. Bright
er days are just ahead. The man who
sticks to the job now is the man who
will cash in when the improvement
comes.
an opportunity to get together and
talk over “the good old days,” while
nothing brings the farmer and the
town man into closer touch than a big
out-door meeting of some kind, where
they can sit beneath the trees, whittle,
and talk to their heart’s content. They
get each others ideas of business con
ditions; they discuss agriculture and
offer each other helpful suggestions,
and in this way each learns much
that is going to prove valuable later
on.
It gives the young people a chance,
too, to get their lungs full of good,
pure, fresh air, and to show off their
new clothes, and to form friendships
which will last throughout all the
years to come. In fact, everybody
benefits from out-door gatherings,
no matter where or when they are
held. And we cai> only hope this sec
tion will see many picnics and family
reunions this season, and that each
will be marked by record-breaking at
tendance.

PICNIC TIME
* Here’s picnic season again, right
around the corner. It suggests old
puns about ants in the blackberry pie,
and sand in the sugar, and all that,
but we are not welcoming the season
with any such ideas,
j We’re glad we’re back around to
picnic time and family reunion weath
er because it will give Vass citizens
who have been more or less housed
up for several months a chance to get
out and shake hands and renew ac
quaintance with each other. It means
chautauquas and camp-meetings for
many communities, and they mean
not only entertainment but education
