We passed farms of fine corn, cotton, and tobacco; however, the finest tobacco was in the vicinity of Cameron, on the farms of Messrs. Adkins, Eads and Maples, on route 2. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. McLean, Mr. Cameron McLean and little daughter, Margaret, motored over to the home of Mrs. Mag Cameron on route one, Sunday afternoon. Master Robert Lancaster, of Vance- boro, is visiting his aunt; Mrs. J. D. McLean. Miss Bonnie Muse left on Tuesday to attend the summer school at A. and E. Mrs. Duncan Rogers and daughter. Miss Blanche, of Fayetteville, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Petty. Mrs. Vannie Byrd, of Broadway, spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Petty. Miss Gertrude Rogers is home from Spray for a vacation. Hartsell Hendricks is a patient at the C. C. Hospital; possibly an at tack of appendicitis. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hendricks and children, of Vass route 1, visited the families of Rev. J. W. Hartsell, and Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hendricks for the week-end. But for the presence of mind and quick acting of E. L. Ray, the drug store of Crabtree & Co., of Cameron, would have been burned down with perhaps adjoining buildings when the transformer was burned out during a severe electric storm last week. Saturday, while placing a new transformer, Mr. Clem Everett, of Lakeview, had a close call, when his hat came in contact with a live wire. Mr. Everett fell and was painfully bruised about the face by striking- some wooden material; Dr. O’Briant was called and rendered first aid. Mr. Everett was able to motor to his home. Mr. E. M. Borst spent last week with his family here, returning from the hospital at Rocky Mount. The community moving pictures will not show in Cameron on the 19th as scheduled on account of the State having given permission to keep “The Lost Colony” on an extra week. At the laying of the corner stone of the new court house at Carthage, August 1st, J. McN. Johnson, of Ab erdeen, will read his epic poem in blank verse prepared and written for the occasion; Grand Master Webb will Masonically lay the corner stone and Judge Adams will be the speaker of the occasion. Rev. and Mrs. M. D. McNeill were dinner guests, Sunday, of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert McLean, of Lakeview, when Rev.
