Eugene Keith and Alton Chappell made a business trip to Charlotte, last week. Mrs. Lula McBryde, of Sanford, is visiting at the home of her brother, J. M. Tyson. Mrs. Tyson, who has been ill for several months, seems bet ter, and can be up a part of the time. Mesdames G. H .Simpson and W. H. Keith were shopping in Sanford, Saturday afternoon. Miss Minnie Muse, of Cameron, was the guest of Miss Bessie Cameron last week-end. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Cameron, Doug- ald and Herbert and little Miss Sarah Cameron, of route two, visited at the home of S. R. Smith and J. M. Tyson Sunday afternoon. Friends of Mrs. J. W. Beasley will learn with regret that she is ill at her home here. Prof. and Mrs. W. D. Matthews and W. D. Jr., visited relatives in Cameron Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Smith, Mrs. N. N. McLean and James Ray McLean visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Norton, near Raeford, last Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brady and children, of Rockfish, spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Brady’s mother, Mrs. Maggie Cameron. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Wallace, of Car thage, and W. A. McLeod and family, of White Hill, visited at the home of J. M. Tyson, Sunday. C. 0. Bell, of Carthage, was a bus iness visitor here Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cameron and children, Marian and A. Mac, and Miss Martha McKay went to Buies Creek Friday for a week-end visit at the home of Dr. and Mrs. j. F. Mc Kay. W. C. Byrd, formerly of Ayden, has accepted a position in Pinehurst and expects to go there to make his home about the first of May. At present he and Mrs. Byrd are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A .Keith.< Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Smith and Mrs. W. D. Matthews attended the “Mi crobe of Love,” in Pinehurst Tuesday evening, and report that it was a great success. Mrs. A. G. Edwards and Mrs. J. R. Thomas were guests of D. E. Bailey and family, of Southern Pines an evening of last week. “Esmeralda,” a comedy drama by Prances Hodgson Burnett and William H. Gillette, will he given in the Vass- Lakeview school auditorium on Wed nesday evening of next week, begin ning at eight o’clock. The play is being staged by members of the fa culty, with assistance, and the the proceeds will go to the school piano fund. Mesdames H. A. Borst, W. C. Les lie, W. B. Graham and C. L. Moffitt and Miss Retha Moffitt, of Sanford, went to Southern Fines Friday to spend the day with her sister, Mrs. W. P. Shaw. Circle Two of the Methodist Aux iliary will meet at the home of Mrs. Charles J. Temple on Thursday even ing of next week at seven-thirty o'clock, instead of on Tuesday even ing, as previously announced. Mrs. J. T. Graig and Miss Ruby Craig attended the musical comedy, “The Microbe of Love,” given in the Pinehurst school auditorium Tuesday evening. Mrs. Graig's son, Rowland, was one of the chorus boys. Miss Nettie Gschwind is expected home the latter part of the week from Marietta, where she has been a mem ber of the school faculty for two years. Misses Emma Wilson and Eoline McMillan spent Wednesday night at their homes in Manly. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Weber, of New York City, are guests at the homes of their sisters, Mrs. Winkleman and Mrs. Dunkhorst. Forty-nine farmers of Alamance County sold 11392 feet of walnut timber cooperatively for $874.89. The largest log brought $54.15. CARTHAGE w *”i. evening, Mrs.. J. M. Wright totertained the. members of we Senior class Basket BSU team, and the, faculty for her. son, John .Wright Jr. The living rooms were taste fully decorated in class colors and the Easter idea was carried out in attractive favors. After a number of interesting games, the hostess, assist ed by Misses Elizabeth Jones and Ruth Lang, served delicious refresh ments. Among the guests were Misses Eula Blue, Ruth Anthony, Myrtle Norton, Dorothy Tyson, Susie Hurwitz, Mary Gilbert Cole, and Les- sie Nunnery; Messrs. O. B. Welch, J. W. Frazier, Otis Baker, Alex Wainer, Colin Spencer, Jr., mascot; Jenning Brady, Fred Flinchum, Archie Muse, Gentry Womack, Gilbert Crutchfield, Paul Duke, Albert Lang, Robert Shef field, William Jackson, and Israel Wainer. On Friday afternoon, the Carthage base ball team played Jackson Springs high at Carthage. An interesting game was won by the visiting team, with the score 6 to 5. Carthage has entered the State Base Ball Champion ship contest and will try for honors in that field. On Tuesday evening the Woman’s club w^ill present a benefit picture en titled, “The Vanishing American.” This will be given at the school aud itorium at eight o’clock. Mrs. U. L. Spence was shoppng in Raleigh, Tuesday. Social Concert On Sunday afternoon at four o’clock, a beautiful sacred concert was given at the Methodst church. This choir was composed of Misses Zora Lee Fry and Mary Spencer. Mrs. C. W. Picquet, of Pinehurst, Mrs. M. G. Dalrymple, Mrs. Reid Pleasants, Mrs. R. L. Burns, Mrs. Joe Downing; Messrs.
