Fridi CARTHAGE Judge and Mrs. W. J. Adams re turned to Raleigh Monday after spending some time at their home in Carthage. Hon. Stacy Brewer was in town Monday on his way to Raleigh. Senator D. A. McDonald came home from Raleigh for the week-end. Mr. W. D. Matthews, of Vass, spent Monday in town. Mr. F. T. Currie and David Knight, of Pinehurst, attended court here Monday. Misses Janie and Mary Underwood, of Sanford, delightfully entertained a few Carthage people Friday eve ning. Those enjoying their hospital ity were Misses Johnsie Redding, Mary Spencer, Annie and Augusta McKeithen, Messrs. Neill T. Blue, Will Dalrymple, Will Stuart and Mc Nair Smith. Mrs. Ralph Leach and Mrs. Jack son, of Aberdeen, were shoppers in town Wednesday. Mrs. T. C. Black, of Jonesboro, spent the week-end here with Mrs. Flora Black. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Camp, of San ford, visited friends in town Satur day. Mrs. Fannie Shields and Mrs. Bertha Freeman, of Pinehurst, visited at Mrs. Mollie Personas Thursday. Mrs. Edgar Brown and Mrs. Ken- nedy, of Hemp, were in town Satur day. Mrs. A. H. McNeill left Saturday for Albany, Ga., to si>end some time with her son, K. S. Worthy. Mrs. H. F. Seawell and daughter, Meade, went to Raleigh Saturday for the day. Miss Margaret- McQueen, of Pine hurst, was in town Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Chamberlain, of New York, who- have been visiting Mrs. 0. B. Welch for the past several days, are leaving Saturday for their home. Mrs. W. T. Jones went to Char lotte Saturday. She expects to be there until about the first of March. Miss Mary Currie is spending a few days in Maxton this week with friends. Mr. and Mrs. John Beasley are now occupying Dr. C. T. Grier’s house. Miss Annie Reid Yow came home from Sanford for the week-end. Mr. A. T. Lewis made a business trip to Raleigh Saturday. Miss Mary McLeod, of Pinehurst, was in town Thursday. The people of Carthage were de lightfully entertained Tuesday eve ning by the ^‘Sandhill Sixteen.” A silver offering was taken for the ben efit of the Methodist parsonage. Mrs. O. B. Welch entertained at bridge Saturday evening in honor of her sister, Mrs. Joe Chamberlain. After several progressions delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Welch, consisting of fruit salad, sandwichcs, pickles and gocoa. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Overman, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Wallace, Mr. and Mrs. Chester O. Bell, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Currie, Dr. and Mrs. E. W. Larkin, Misses Annie McKeith en, Augusta McKeithen and Mary Moore, and Mrs. Joe Chamberlain. Mrs. T. B. Tyson entertained the Married Ladies’ Bridge Club Friday evening. Claud Tyson, of Raleigh, spent the week-end in Carthage. Britton King, of Hamlet, spent Sunday in Carthage with relatives. Mr. Geo. Humber has returned from Raleigh after spending several days there. Mr. F. D. Monroe, of West End, has accepted a position here in the high school, taking the place of Mr. Grant, who resigned at Christmas. The Senior Christian Endeavors went to Hemp Sunday night and held a joint meeting with the Endeavors there. T. M. Sparow, of Aberdeen, was in town Tuesday. R. C.
