Friday, January 28, 1927. THE PILOT CARTHAGE Mrs. Beam, of Statesville, is visit ing her daughter, Mrs. Alex Blue. M. C. McDonald, of West End, at tended court here Tuesday. Mrs. Carlton Kennedy, of Aber deen, spent the past week-end with her sister here, Mrs. S. F. Cole. Dr. J. F. Davis, of High Falls, spent Tuesday in town. A rook party was enjoyed by the friends of Geo. Cable Penn Friday evening at the home of his grandpa rents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Graves. Miss Dorothy Cole was presented with high score prize, which was a deck of “Touring.” Those present were Dorothy Cole, Florence Battley, Louise Fry, Ruth Stutts, Howard Muse, James Stutts, Paul Burns and Curtis McLeod. The Eastern Star ladies served sandwiches and tea in the basement of the court house Monday. A fish dinner was served by the ladies of the Baptist church in the basement of the court house Tuesday, the proceeds for the bnefit of the Baptist church. The Round Dozen Music Club had its regular monthly meeting with Mrs. F. S. Blue Wednesday after noon. As there was much business to be transacted, no special program was given. The members pi^settit were Mrs. R. L. Burns, Miss Zora Lee Fry, Mrs. R. W. Pleasants, Mrs. M. G. Dalrymple, Mrs. R. L. Tyson, ^rs. H. F. Seawell, Miss Augusta McKeithen, Mrs. C. C. Spencer, Mrs. J. G. Downing, Mrs. I. W. William son and Mrs. F. S. Blue. Delicious refreshments were serv ed by the hostess, consisting of cold boiled ham, deviled eggs, potato salad on lettuce, hot biscuits, coffee and lemon pie. Mrs. Mamie Brandt, of Fayette ville, is visiting her neice, Mrs. R. W. Pleasants. Mrs. L. P. Tyson and Mrs. S, W. Hinker visited in Sanford this week. Circles No. 1 and 2 met at the Presbyterian church Monday after noon at 3:30 for their mission study class. These circles have just fin ished studying the book “Land of the Saddle Bags.” The meeting was very interesting and much enjoyed by all the members. A picnic supper was served. Mrs. E. H. Camp, *of San ford, has invited these two circles to meet with her in February. ' Misses Eliza and Elizabeth Green, of Raleigh, spent the week-end with their mother, Mrs. R. L. Phillips. Mrs. J. L. Currie and daughter. Miss Mary, have gone to Orlando, Fla., to spend some time. Mrs. N. A. McKeithen is visiting relatives in Aberdeen this week. Miss Judith Wainer spent Sunday with friends in Hamlet. Miss Dorothy Jennnings, of Mere dith College, spent the past week-end at home with her mother, Mrs. W. G. Jennings. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Cle^g and Miss Annie McKeithen spent Thursday in Raleigh. V. T. Cheatham, of Manley, attend ed court Monday. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Morris, of Southern Pines, were in Carthage Monday. Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Blue were din- neo* guests of Miss Maggie Wicker, of Sanford, Friday evening, Mr. Will McNeill, of Lakeview, was in town Saturday. Miss Bertie May, of Asheboro, Miss Janie Underwood, of Sanford, and Miss Clyde Raper, of Wilson, were the week-end guests of Miss Mary Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Thompson, of Pinehurst, and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Harrington, of Lakeview, spent Sun day with Mrs. Cornelia Black. N. A. McKeithen, Jr., of Wilming ton, was at home for Sunday. Mrs. R. M. Caldwell, of Aberdeen, spent the day with Mrs. W. R. Clegg Wednesday. Mesdames C. T. Sinclair and U. L. j Barrett were visitors in Hamlet Sun- I day. I I R. L. Chandler, of Southern Pines, was in town Friday. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Speaicer are visiting relatives in Virginia this week. Miss Judith Wainer kft Friday night for Providence, R. L Miss Wainer expects to be away for about a month. Mrs. C. T. Grier has returned from a visit to her sister, Mrs. W. C. Brown, of Sanford. Hon. U. L. Spence spent Saturday in Sanford. J. H. Oglesby, of Jackson Springs, was in town Monday. Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Gibbon, of Lake view, were in Carthage Friday. Ex-Sheriff D. A1 Blue and family attended the funeral of Geo. Adams entertained quite a number of friends at bridge last Saturday afternoon. After sev eral progressions the hostess served a salad course, consisting of chicken salad, sandwiches, cheese straws, sweet pickle, beaten biscuits and cof fee.
