at Farm Life on account of road con

TRADE OUTLOOK FAVORABLE,
MR. PATCH HEARS IN NORTH.
The Sandhill Farm Life School
opened on September 10th with an
enrollment of 166 pupils. A great
many pupils were kept away on ac
count of high water and bridges be
ing- washed away, and a few, of
course, felt they were needed yet
awhile at farm work.
The enrollment has increased to
around 185 this week and all are still
not enrolled who belong to this school.
Several dormitory pupils are late
to enter school due to the fact that
the boarding department was late in
being re-establishe<d. This, too, has
caused others to go to other schools.
The school hopes to enstall a new
pump for the well soon. The water
supply has given lots of trouble for
the last several years and has been a
big expense due to the condition of
the old pump.
The library is receiving careful at
tention. Efforts are being made to
have even a better library than be
fore the fire. The school will ap
preciate the donation of books or sub
scriptions to magazines. Books, in
good condition though old, will be
gladly accepted. Good dictionaries
are badly needed. Teachers will see
that these gifts are properly cared
for and used.
Next week the music class is to
begin work. This class is late start
ing because our only good piano was
destroyed in the fire of the girls'
dormitory loss last year. We do not
have a piano yet but with the whole
community backing the cause one will
come.
A Parent-Teacher association is to"
be organized this week. Then with
the parents knowing what the teach
ers want and teacher knowing what
parents want great things for the
good of the pupils and community can
be accomplished. Our new county
demonstrator has promised to help us
in this a:3sociation in any way she
can.
I notice that Moore County is one
of the five counties in the State se
lected to be tested on why so many
school children were absent from
school last year. If all the days that
the State inspector, Miss Smith, is
in Moore County are as rainy as to
day (Wednesday) she will not be
greatly surprised at finding an in
crease—this year of “absence” marks.
We are glad to know special atten
tion is to be given to school attend
ance.
Bill Hinson, of Farm Life School,
spent the week ned with homefolks.
Floyd Lewis, of Eagle Springs, is
staying with his sister, Mrs. Hughie
Garner, at Clay Road, and attending
high school here.
W. McC. Blue attended Federal
Court in Rockingham last week, serv
ing on the grand jury. "
Floyd and Frank Kelly retuined
Monday to King College, Bristol,
Tenn. Th*s is Frank’s senior year
and his Farm Life class mates will
be interested to know he has the hon-
cr of being president of student gov
ernment of the college. Floyd is in
his junior year and also stands well
in his class.
News has been received from Mr.
Hutcheson, Superintendent of Farm
Life School for the past several years,
that he and his family are getting
settled in their cottage on the campus
of Richmond Seminary, Richmond,
Virginia.
Miss Virginia Myrick spent last
week end with homefolks near Ben
nett.
Mrs. Ida Blue spent Thursday night
with her sister, Mrs. Sallie Ray.
Mrs. Mary Blue received a letter
last week from her son, Ralph, who
lives in Winston-Salem, stating that
his children were recovering nicely
from whooping cough and scarlet
fever.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blue spent a few
days in Raleigh last week.
Miss Annie Daugherty, who taught
domestic science in Farm Life School
last year, spent Sunday at the school.
Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Britt and son,
I>. H. Jr., visited Misses Lydia and
Sallie Ray lasrt week.
Little River has again outgrown its
name. The water is the highest it
v/as ever known to be. Bridges and
fills are damaged by the water and the
wind has blown down several tele-
r>hone poles and numbers of old and
strong-looking trees in this section.

it had been hoped might be run off
