Friday, May 3. 1S2q The Week In Vass Vass'Lakeview Finals The closinsr exercises of Vass-Lake- ▼iew High School will begin today tFriday), May 3, at 8 p. m., wh«n the annual commencement music recital will be given by the pupils of Miss Evelsni Reed who has charge of the music department. Sunday, May 5, at 11 a. m., tk6 baccalaureate sermon will be preached by Dr. H. C. Smith, the presiding elder of Rockingham district. This service will be held in the school au ditorium and all other church serv ices will be suspended in favor of the union service. Special music for the occasion will be furnished by a choir of representative singers from the church choirs of Vass and Lakeview. Monday evening at 8 o'clock the senior class exercises will be held in the auditorium. Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock there will be a recitation-declamation con test. Wednesday, May 8, will be com mencement day. At 11 a. m., Dr. Ar chibald Currie, head of the depart ment of political science, Davidson College, will deliver the commence ment address. After the address, di plomas and medals will be awarded. Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock the senior class will present the play, “Go Slow, Mary.” THE PILOT, a Paper With Character. Aberdeen. North Carolina Club Meeting Postponed On account of the Vass-Lakeview finals, the Woman’s Club meeting will be held on Friday evening. May 10, instead of this evening. Circle One Meets Circle No. 1 of the Methodist Aux iliary held a very delightful meetinir at the home of Mrs. A. M. Cameron on Wednesday evening. Mrs. W\ C. Leslie presided over the business ses- soin. During: the social hour three interesting contests were enjoyed, the winners being Mrs. W. C. Leslie, Mrs. H. A. Borst and Mrs. C. J. Temple. At the conclusion of the evening the hostess was assisted by her daugh- tre, Marian, in s-rving a delectabb course of refreshments Mrs. Keith Hostess Mrs. W. H. Keith was hostess to Circle 2 of the Methodist Auxiliary on Wednesday evening of last week, and the following program was giv en: Scripture reading, Mrs. W. D. Matthews; prayer, Mrs. Alex Smith; readings. Mrs. R. H. Cox and Mrs. W. J. Cameron. Following a lively business discussion, drawing contests were held and the pictures were mirth- provoking if not inspiring. Fruit jello and cake were served. Personals Mr. and Mis. C. L. Tyson and little daughter, Marie, spent Sunday in Fayetteville with Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Hawn. Mrs. G. W. Brooks visited at Bailey and Wilson Sunday. Mrs. A. G. Edwards and children, A. G., Jr., Wilbur and the twins, Max Raven and Baxter Reed, spent last week-end in Raleigh with Mrs. Ed wards' parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Bundy. We venture to say that no handsomer twins have been eaiter- tained in Raleigh than these little brown-eyed tots. The Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Wright and little sons, Wilson Bruce and Col lins, of Rockingham, spent a part of last week in town visiting rela tives. Mrs. Wright is a daughter of the Jate D. B. Cameron of Durham. Mrs. J. J. Irvin of Cameron visit ed Mrs. Bertie L. Matthews Thurs day afternoon. Miss Beulah McLean and Miss Al berta Monroe went to Charlotte last Friday afternoon to visit relatives and returned Sunday evening. C. G. Wolff of Winston-Salem has purchased the barber shop equipment of Roy Wilson and is operating at the same stand, the old post office building. Mr. Wolff, who is an uncle of Mrs. Bid Autrey, is boarding with the Autreys. Friends of John A. Gunter are de lighted to welcome him home after an absence of several months. Mr. Gunter has been visiting his sons in Florida. Hear what Policeman Murphy has to say about women at the school auditorium next Wednesday evening! Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Thompson and children went to Hamlet Sunday to see Mr. and Mrs. H. Ij. Thompson and their new baby boy. Mr. and Mrs. Will Warner who have been at Hotel Vass for some tim^, have taken a cottage at Lakeview. Mr. Warner is salesman for Keith Motor Company, Inc. Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Wilson of Co lumbia, S. C., came Saturday for a visit to Mrs. Wilson’s mother, Mrs. D. C. McGill, before going to Texas to live. The family enjoyed a reunion on Sunday, every member being pres ent. Mr. McGill was at home from Rolesville and Mr. and Mrs. Duncan I McGill and baby were there. Mrs. J. E. Byrd and Miss Enni.^ Byrd of Rocky Branch, spent Tues day with Mrs. R. L. Oldham and Miss Lillian Oldham. Mrs. Pratt and little daughter, Peg- g>- Ann. have returned to their home in Goldsboro, accompanied by Mrs. S. D. Byrd, with whom they spent some time in Vass. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Cox and daugh ter, Winona, went to Wadesboro Sun day, and Mr. Cox’s mother returned with them for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cameron ani children, Marian and A. Mac, visit ed relatives in Buie’s Creek Sunday. I Mrs. G. W. Griffin returned from I Hamlet Tuesday morning, where she 1 went last Sunday to see her little j ffranddaughter, Miss Betty Ruth Grif fin. who arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Griffin Sundav morning. T. J. Smith, Mrs. Archie McGill, Alex and Francis McGill went to Maxton and Raeford Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Thompson and family and Mr.* and Mrs. J. M. Nor ton. CAMERON Miss Arnold Hostess Last Tuesday afternoon Miss Mamie Arnold was hostess to Circle No. 1 of the auxiliary at her pretty home, “Rotherwood.” A goodly num ber were present and Mrs. Lula Muse had charge of the program, which, was one of much interest and very helpful. The hostess served delicious sand wiches, cake and coffee, after which the members enjoyed a social hour visiting with their splendid chairman. Prize for Attendance Miss Virginia Cameron, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cam eron, was presented with a beautiful necklace last Sunday morning at Sun day school in the Presbyterian Church for one year of perfect at tendance in Sunday school. Wins Medals Miss Myrtle Boag won the medal last Friday night in Carthage in the county recitation contest. Also she won the recitation contest medal in Cameron school Monday night. Joint Meeting On last Friday afternoon Misses Lillian and Thurla Cole were host esses to Circles Nos. 1 nad 2 of the auxiliary. Excellent reports were read by Miss Mamie Arnold and Mrs. •J.well Hemphill, who were delegates to the Presbyterial which met in Laurinburg recently. Cream and cake were served by the hostesses. Miss Flora Mae McFadyen who has been teaching at Fuquay Springs, is home now, having finished a very successful term. Mrs. L. B. McKeithen attended the Federation of Woman’s Clubs which met in Charlotte this week. Mrs. Evelyn Harrington of Georgia is visiting her sister, Mrs. G. M. Thomas, here this week. Martin McFadyen of Fayetteville spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Flora McFadyen. Miss Minnie Massey of Rock Hill, S. C., was the week-end guest of Miss Lillian Cole. Mr. and Mrs. 0. J. Denny of Wins ton-Salem were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Boag. On Sunday the communion service was observed in Manley Presbyterian Church and little Anna Elizabeth Chisholm, baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chisholm, was baptised. The Rev. Mr. Mason, a returned missionary from Africa, preached in the Baptist Church here Sunday eve ning. Miss Mattie Harriett Bullock left Wednesday for Fort Bragg where she has a position. By way of raising funds this week they hit upon an original idea when they had a “breakfast” instead of the proverbial luncheon or supper. The structure is one of the commanding designs by Yeomans, and drawn to fit the location as well as to afford a home that will be a pleasure to the occupants and a marked addition to the archi tecture of the neighborhood. It will be one of the leading buildings of the Knollwood section, and a thing that will have an influence on the entire Sandhills. THIS IS ONE OF THE SIX OR EIGHT NEW BUILDINGS SCHEDULED FOR THE SUMMER AND FALL OF THIS YEAR Plans for the other buildings are coming along as fast as architects can get the projects on paper, and it is figured that the new work on Knollwood Heights will total about the biggest figure in home making of any place in the Sandhills community.
