Taking advantage of the holiday the teachers will go to their respective homes. a Book Club Meeting The Aberdeen Book Club was de lightfully entertained last Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Jones Macon act ing as hostess at her home on Rush street. Following the regular business hour an interesting programme was giv en with “The Autobiography of a Business Woman” serving as its sub ject, and papers were read by Mrs. G. E. Pleasants, Jr., on “Small Be ginnings,’" followed by Mrs. H. W. Doub on “Progress and Success.” The special guests of the afternoon were Mesdames James McColeman, Frank Mizell and A. K. KENNEDY McFarland-Kirk The many friends of Miss Evelyn Kirk and Marvin C. McFarland will be interested to learn of their mar riage which took place on last Fri day afternoon at Carthage. Miss Kirk, an attractive blonde, is a daughter of Mrs. Cora Kirk of Roseland, and well known in Aber deen, while Mr. McFarland holds a responsible position with the Allred Chevrolet Corporation. After a short motor trip Mr. and Mrs. McFarland will make their home for the present at the home of the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. McFarland. Bible Class Meets The Young Woman’s Bible Class of the Baptist Church held its Novem ber meeting with Mrs. Holt. In the absence of the President, Mrs. Claude Johnson, presided. After the devo tional, reading of minutes and roll call, a general discussion of business was held and plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas and packages for the protegees of the class arranged. Mrs. Holt, assisted by her guest, Mrs. Cameron, served refreshments. Missionary Notes The December Meeting of the Wo man’s Missionary Society will be held at the Methodist Church next Mon day Afternoon, December 2nd, at 3:00 o’clock. Since this is the last meeting of the year members are urged to bring remainder of dues or pledges, and also their “Rainy Day” bags, which will be opened at this time. George Barkelo of Philadelphis mo tored down last week, and enjoyed several days hunting as the guest of Malcolm Pleasants. M. Schwartzman was called to Reidsville last Sunday on account of the serious illness of his mother. George Bryan of Clayton was the Sunday guest of Miss Bessie Lee Poole at the Teacherage. Miss Mildred Osborne, third grade teacher, who was called to her home at Leaksville last week on account of the serious sickness of her father, re turned to her work last Monday, with the news that her father is much bet ter. While she was away Mrs. Carl ton Kennedy did substitute work for her in the school. Mrs. Trueluck, who has been visit ing relatives at Mullins, S. C., re turned home last Saturday. Mrs. J. L. Lea and son, Gordon went to Burlington on last Sunday to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with friends and relatives. Mr. Lea and El eanor will join them for Thanksgiv ing Day. Alex Cockman of the Hockohy Mountain Hunting Club near Pitts- boro was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Talbot Johnson last Sunday. G. B. Starling, Jr., came home for the past week-end from Dunn to visit his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. G. B. Starling at the Methodist Parson age. Mrs. E. L. Pleasants spent Friday and Saturday of last week in Ashe- boro visiting her daughter, Mrs. S am Swearingen. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie B. Thomas motored over to Mount Gilead last week, and spent several days visiting Mrs. Thomas’ mother. The Rev. H. C. Smith, presiding elder of the Rockingham district, preached at the Aberdeen Methodist MANNING-ALDRICH Church last Sunday morning, and First Quarterly Conference was held after the services. During Mr. Smith’s stay in town he was the guest of the Rev. G. B. Starling at the parson age. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Page, Sr., of Raleigh, together with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Page, Jr., and little daughter, Evelyn Tyson, of Norfolk, Va., were in Aberdeen a short while Sunday. Mrs. Page, Sr., has just returned from taking hospital treatment in Balti more, and will be with Mr. Page at the Carolina Hotel in Raleigh for some time. Manning, to Maurice Aldrich of Norwich, Vt. The marriage was performed by the Rev. Mr. Paisley of the Congregational church in Norwich, Vt., Wednesday evening, November 27, 1929. Miss Manning will be remembered as a visitor in Southern Pines three years ago. She is secretary of the Dartmouth Christian Association at Dartmouth College.
