The Day Club was entertained by Mrs. Reid Page on Thursday after noon in Aberdeeen. Mr. and Mrs. George Moore were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Elliott on Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kelly celebrat ed their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday, October 26, lat their home on Indiana avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Maze were dinner guests. In the afternoon they were given an informal sur prise reception by friends of the East ern Star and presented with a large cake and sum of gold. Mrs. Bettie Schroeder entertained lat bridge on Wednesday afternoon in the Orange Room at Jack’s Grill. A get-together supper will be held m the Parish House of the Episcopal church on Friday evening, Nov. 7. Bishop Penick plans to be here and §11 interested in the church are invit ed to attend. Miss Helena Kelly has issued novel invitations for la Hallowe’en party to be given at her home in Weymouth Heights Saturday night. A Hallowe’en par^y was given by the Junior Sunday school class of the Baptist church Thursday night .in Mr. Richardson’s barn which was appro priately decorated, the rafters hung with jack-o-lanterns, black cats and apples. After the Hallowe’en games were played the party went to the house to listen to the ghost stories told by P. P. Pelton, and for the refresh ments. Mrs. David Sloane of Miilbrook, N. Y., has leased the Lachine cot tage on Arbutus road and expects to arrive within the next few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill B. King of Kalamiazoo, Mich., have taken a cot tage on Country Club drive for the season. The Parish Guild of Emanuel Church will meet next Tuesday af- 1 ternoon at 2:30 with Mrs. John Jor dan at her home on Country Club Drive. Among those who will attend the U. N. Dr.- Anita Newcomb McGree re turned to Southern Pines Friday and has optened her liome on Orchard road. Miss Hasson of Washington, D. C., is her house guest. Paul Shyde and Mr. and Mrs. Beam of Norristown, Pa., are house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett French. The Girls Hockey team of Southern Pines will play the Winston-Salem team Friday afternoon here. Follow ing the game they will be entertained at supper at the home of Ruth Tra vis. The game scheduled for Wednes day afternoon with High Point was postponed on account of rain. The first meeting of the Parish Guild was held at the home of Mrs. Alaric Drew at her home on Indiana p.venue Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Hugh Betterley was elected president. Mrs. James Swett, secretary and Mrs. W. E. McCord, treasurer, were re-elect ed. After the meeting a salad course was served. ' Mayor Stutz and Vance Sykes, di vision engineer of the Seaboard, were busy inspecting the various avenue crossings last Friday. As a result the sidewalk crossings have been put in much better condition and there is a prospect that we may obtain steel rails to replace the present plank crossings of the driveways. Roy Grennell returned Friday morning from the Sakonnet Golf Club, Little Compton, R. I., land will re sume his duties with the Southern Pines Club Saturday morning . John Ruggles, whose marriage is announced in this issue of The Pilot, has rented an apartment from Mrs. Goodwin, 10 North May street. Mrs. F. M. Gardner and Miss Dun bar, who were expected to arrive from their summer home in Winthrop Beach, Mass., were detained by the sudden illness of Miss Dunbar. John Ramsbottom is employed in the Simonds store. Mr. and Mrs. A. I. Creamer are ex pected to arrive Friday from Damis- cotta, MIe., where ,'they ha.ve been since the closing of the Inn at Char levoix. John F. Stevens is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Stevens. David Hoskins has purchased the McCullom house on Bennett fctreet near Wisconsin tavenue. Walter Lambeth of Thomasville, and Hinton James, Democratic candi dates for the late Congressman Hani- mer’s seat, were in town Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Struthers Burt re turned Saturday from a summer spent in Wyoming and have opened their winter home, Hibernia Lodge, W'ey- mouth Heights. George Nevin, Jr., is now with the Highland Hardware House. Services will be held in the auditor ium of The Church of Wide Fellow ship Sunday morning, Nov. 2nd, at 10:30. The Rev. Elmer Willis Seri will deliver his first sermon of this season. The vested chair will render the spec ial music. A harvest Hallowe’en supper will be served at The Church of Wide Fel lowship Friday evening, October 31, at six o’clock. The price will be 50c. Mesdlames Turner a^d Austin are chairman of the group serving the supper. Miss Lena Cameron returned from Charlevoix Sunday. Mrs. Julia Vetterlein of Atlantic City, is the guest of her son, H. E. Vetterlein, Niagara. L. Ryals met with her Home Demonstration Club in Vass on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting was ipresided over by the vice-presi dent, Mrs. A. K. Thompson and was opened with prayer and the reading of the club collect. Mrs. Ryals gave a report of the council meeting which was held in Carthage last week and then conducted a very interesting study on the subject of cereals, tell ing something of the food values and comparative cost of the cooked and uncooked cereals. Following this, a cereal advertise ment contest was enjoyed, in which Mrs. S. R. Smith was winner of the first prize and Mrs. G. W. Brooks and Mrs. John Gaddy of the secdno.
