Miss Wyche Hostess Miss Edythe Wyche was a charm ing hostess to Night Bridge Club on Wednesday night of week at the home of Mrs. Prank Page, Jr., on Page Hill. The guests enjoyed thre'e tables of the game, and after several interest ing progressions, the first prize was awarded to Mrs. Frank Page, Jr., while the second was given to Mrs. Jesse Frink. DOUB ABERDEEN Sewing Club Meeting The Stay-A-While Sewing Club was delightfully entertained on last Friday afteinoon at the home of Mrs. LeRoy Harrington i n Lakeside Heights. During the business period all plans were perfected for the Chiistmas Bazaar, which is to take place on next Saturday morning, be ginning at 10 o’clock at the Aber deen Hardware Store, where many dainty hand-made articles will be on sale, as well as cakes, candies, etc., the proceeds to go towards providing Christmas cheer for two needy fami lies in this community. An interesting sewing contest was enjoyed by the members, Mrs. Forrest Lockey coming off victor and winning a luncheon cloth as prize. Book Club’s XmAS Party The Christmas meeting of die Aberdeen Book Club was held at the home of Mrs. E. T. McKeithen on Tuesday afternoon of this week and the Christmas motif was carried out in every detail. A beautifully decorat ed tree was the center of attraction, and many admiring comments were m>ade thereon. ^ The members had drawn names at ohe last meeting and amusing rhymes cescribing these persons were brought in. Mrs. W. T. Huntley was given the prize for having the best rhyme, and presented with a copy of J. McN. Johnson s book, “F'ree Verse and Paraphrase.” Mrs. Forrest Lockey read several beautiful Christmas poems, written by Mrs. T. B. Up church of Raeford, district president of Federated Clubs, which are espec ially enjoyed. Dolls dressed by the members were brought in and displayed, and the doll brought in by Mrs. M. M. John son,* dressed by Mrs, Rosser Jones, was voted the most tastefully dressed doll, and Mrs. Johnson was presented with a string of beads as prize. These dolls will go towards providing Christmas cheer for the children at the State Sanatorium. Refreshments were served by the hostess at the close of the meeting. Guests were Mrs. Landis, Mrs. Ros ser Jones, Mrs. L. I, Bass, Mrs. L. T. Avery, Mrs. W. T. Batchelor of Aber deen, Mrs. Elise Mulliken of Raleigh, IVfrs. Hooker and Mrs. Jones of the Sanatorium, and the teachers. Misses Rosser, Beddingfield, Grady, Mary McKeithen and Miss Mary Leach and Mary Wilder. Pines, and by ivlwamans in Aber- deen and Pinehurst. Evans, of Rowland, was held at the home of Will Stuart and Misses May and Bess Stuart, of Carthage, Firday, De cember the 12th, with a quiet but very impressive service conducted by the pastor of the Rowland Presbyterian Church, assisted by the Rev. W. S. Golden, pastor of the Carthage Pres byterian Church, the Rev. I. N. Clegg, Presbyterian minister, and friend of the family, and the Rev. J. H. Buffa- loe, pastor of the Carthage Metho dist Church. The music was conducted by Mrs. L. R. Sugg. Mrs. H. F. Seawell, Mrs. Frank Blue, Mrs. F. H. Underwood, Mrs. ’J. M. Johnson and C. G. Spen cer sang several appropriate hymns. Dr. Evans had many \friends in Carthage, having lived here several years ago. He was a deacon in the Presbyterian church of Carthage and active in every good work of the town and community. His sense of humor never failed him even in the greatest crisis. He was one of the best beloved physicians in Robeson county, always helping those who co€ld not help themselves. He helped to organ ize the Presbyterian church in Row land and was a ruling elder from the organization to his death, in fact he was the ruling spirit in his town and community. Among the survivors are Miss Ag nes Evans and W. Stuart Evans of Elise Academy, Hemp, children of the deceased. CHRISTMAS DADDIES ISSUE S. O. S. FOR MORE . Overman of North Caroling^, second ranking member of the upper house of Congn^ss, Senator froi^ North Carolina since March 4, 1903, died early last Friday morning in Wash ington after a brief illness. Senator Overman was born January 3, 1864 in Salisbury, and resided there through out his lifetime. He succeeded the late Jeter C. Pritchard, Republican, in the United States Senate, and only his colleague. Senator F. M. Simmons of this state, had served longer than he in that bod>. Mrs. Overman and three daughters survive. Governor Gardner appointed former Governom Cameron Morrison to^ tha seat vacated by Mr. Overman’s death, and Senator Morrison was sworn in at the Capitol early this week. He report ed the purchase from money donated by people of the county of 300 pairs of shoes, 300 union suits, 180 sweat ers for children, men’s underwear, boys’ pants and shirts, girl’s dress es, hose for all ages; the preparation for distribution of the many over coats, suits of clothes, sweaters, shirts, shoes, underwear and other garments given to the committee, and the purchase of flour, meal, lard, meat, butter, sugar, grits, coffee, or anges, milk, apples and candy. The igroceries were purchased at cost from takers’ Food Store in South ern Pines through the generosity of the management, which also donated $20 toward the cause, Mr. Buchan reported. He also expressed thanks to the Civic Club of Southern Pines, the Good Fellows’ Club, of Aberdeen and others who have ably assisted the committee in its plans for relief and spread of Christmas cheer where they are most needed. He told of one man, paralyzed through a recent ac cident, penniless and with ten chil dren ranging in ages from 1 to 13, to whom the committee has sent a bountiful supply of clothing and food. Paul Dana reported to the meeting a donation of $50 from the Sandhill Post of the American Legion. Tickets went on sale yesterday for the motion picture, “Along Came Youth”, which opens for a three day run at the Carolina Theatre in Sovithem Pines tonight, 20 per cent of the proceeds of which are to be given to the Christmas Daddies by Manager Charles Picquet, of tlie Car- lina Theatres. Large crowds are ex pected at the movie tonight, tomor row night and Saturday afternoon and night.
