Mrs. Samuel B. Richardson and
Mrs. A. McNeil Blair of Southern
Pines will serve tea Saturday after
noon from four to six o’clock in the
Thistle club room at the Southern
Pine Country Club. This is the sec
ond in a series of Saturday teas which
the Thistle Club is giving during the
season. The invitations are limited
to members of the club and their
guests. The regular putting and
approaching contests will be held as
usu£.',l Saturday afternoon and will
be in charge of Mrs. William F. Al
len. These contests, open to the winter
guests of the Sandhills, are for both
j men and women.
Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Mudgett were
hosts to the Night Club Tuesday night
at their home. High score honors were
won by Mrs. George C. Moore, Mrs.
Emilie Wilson, Stuart Monroe and Dr.
J. S. Milliken. Guests included Mr.
and Mrs. C. P. Everest, Mr. and Mrs.
E. V. Perkinson, Dr. and Mrs. G. G.

The Day Club was entertained on
Tuesday afternoon by Mrs. D. G.
Stutz at her home. Mrs. Verdie Wiley
and Mrs. R. L. Hart were awarded
high score prizes. Guests in addition

Emilie Wilson, Mrs. Arthur Newcomb

Mrs. Hoyt Shaw was a bridge host
ess on Wednesday afternoon at Shaw-

Mrs. Alice Adams was .pleasantly
surprised by her friends at her home
on May street Saturday night, on the
occasion of her birthday. Bridge was
enjoyed, followed by refreshments.

Dr. Landrith, Noted Speaker, To
Talk at Baptist Church,
Southern Pines ^
“A giant Texan with a fearless
tongue,” is the description applied by
a New York state paper to Dr. Ira
Landrith, who is Citizenship Super
intendent of the International Society
of Christian Endeavor. Dr. Landrith
is to speak at the First Baptist
Church, Southern Pines next Simday,
January 11th, at 8:00 p. m. under the
auspices of the Moore County Chris
tian Endeavor Union.
For over 25 years Dr. Landrith has
been one of the best known speakers
in America. He has been an active
fighter for moral and civic reform
and has championed in every state
of the union the causes -of good citi
zenship, law enforcement and world
I>eace. Especially is he beloved by
young people who find in h)im a
friend and counsellor. For the past
several years he has given much of
his time to the promotion of the
Christian Endeavor movement.
“Dr. Landrith is a brilliant orator.
He has a gift of humor, and, like all
true humorists, can be touchingly
earnest and eloquent when occasion
demands.] His addresses are orator
ical masterpieces of logic and reason,
hard-hitting and direct.” The public
is cordially invited to hear him.
ATLANTIC COAST
GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
The Atlantic Coast Golf Champion
ship will be played on the links of
the Southern Pines Country club, Feb
ruary 17, 18, 19, and 20.
This event will be two champion
ships in one, being for men and wo
men. The men’s tournament will be
played over the No. 1 course and the
women^ played at the same time, will
be over the No. 2 course.
Trophies will be awarded to the
winners of the championship, to the
winner and runner-up ip each divis
ion and for special events in connect
ion with the touinament.
The weekly approaching and putt
ing contests, held Saturday after
noons at the Southern Pines Country
club, are o<pen to winter guests of the
Sandhills, including men and women.
BENEFIT DANCE
A dance will be given on Thurs
day evening, January 22, at the
Southern Pines Country club, from
9:30 to 1:30, for the benefit of St.
Anthony’s Catholic Church, of South
ern Pines. Music for this affair will
be furnished by George Beaman and
his dance band. Tickets may be pur
chased from Dante Montesanti, gen
eral chairman, or any member of the
church.
This affair bids to be one of the
best of the season and the members
of St. Anthonys Church wish to take
this opportunity to invite every ona
