Doub was a charming hostess to the Aberdeen Book Club last Thursday afternoon at her home on Montford street. During the busi ness pf^riod the annual election of of ficers took place and Mrs. W. A. Blue was made president, Mrs. W. T. Hunt ley, vice-president and Mrs. Ralph Caldwell, treasurer. Mrs. E. L. Pleas ants was invited to join the club to take the place of Mrs. P. P. McCain, who has resigned. The subject for the afternoon’s pro- j gram was “Egypt,” and the follow ing interesting (papers were read: “Modern Egypt,” by Mrs. J. W. Bow man; “The Monuments of Ancient Egypt” by Mrs. C. V. Miller and “Modern Egyptian Literature” by Mrs. J. Talbot Johnson. The special guests invited in for this meeting were Mesdames Nelson Court way, A. L. Burney, Robert Gwyn, Reid Pleasants, of Aberdeen, and Misses Rosser, Carrawan, Wells and Mary Leach, with Mrs. Herman Campbell and Mrs. Footman of Pine- hurst. After the meeting a delightful so cial hour was enjoyed during which the hostess served delicious refresh ments. Bridge Club Party Mrs. J. D. Frink entertained the Neighborhood Bridge Club last Thurs day night at her attractive bungalow on Rush street, with Mrs. Ada K. Weaver and Miss Sarah Weaver in vited in to make up the two tables of bridge. A delightful hour of the game was enjoyed at the conclusion of which Mrs. Forrest Lockey was found to be the winner of high score prize and Mrs. W. G, Miller winner of the sec ond prize. -J ' Mrs. Pleasants Entertains Mrs. Francis Pleasants delightful ly entertained her Bridge Club last Thursday night at her home on Be- thesda Road with two tables of bridge. Mrs. M. B. Pleasants and Mrs. E. I;. Pleasants were specially invited guests. The high score prize was awarded to Mrs. M. B. Pleasants. Another Bridge Party Mrs. W. L. Misses Olive Kirby, Gladys Watson and Eleanor Hill, popular members of the school faculty last year, spent last Sunday at The Teacherage. Miss Kirby is teaching at Gibsonville, Miss Watson at Washington, and Miss Hill at Leaksville. The small son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hendren who live on the new Laurinburg road has been quite sick with pneumonia, following influenza. Mr. and Mrs. George Monroe Ward of Batesburg, S. C., motore'd up last Sunday to visit Mrs. Ward’s sister, Mrs. Fagan who has been quite ill. With them came Colin Bethune to visit his parents. Colin is spending the winter in Bate&burgh and going wO school there. Dwight Caviness and children have been quite ill with influenza for the past week. Arthur Carpenter is moving his family from Jackson Springs to Aber deen, and have t«ake^i rooms with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Blue. Mr. Carpen ter has accepted a position with the Freeman Furniture House, Mrs. Alex Monroe returned to Moore County Hospital this week to undergo another operation, the sec ond she has had in the last few months. Miss Margaret Pleasants, a stu dent of N. C. C. W. in Greensboro, spent last week-end in Aberdeen vis iting her .parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Pleasants, Jr. Mrs. Fred Henry, who is able to be out after pneumonia, went lo Rockingham last week to visit witli her mother. Miss Mary Wilder left for Wash ington, D. C., last Friday night. Miss Floy Martin, who is well known in Aberdeen, is quite ill in Co lumbia, S. C., and her sister, Mrs. Frank Page, Sr., of Raleigh is spend ing some time with her. Lieut. Rufus H. Beck of Marion, spent the week-end in Aberdeen vlim iting friends. Mrs. J. B. Fagan’s many friends rejoice to hear that she i§ so mucH improved that she was able to be brought home from the Moore County Hospital on Tuesday of this week. Dan McKeithen, cashier of the Page Trust Company has been con fined to his home for several days with influenza. John Sloan went over to Fayette ville on Tuesday of this week to have some treatment for sinus trouble. Miss Elizabeth Thomas, who has been ill at her home in Jonesboro, is able to return to her work at the Carolina Discount Company. The Rev. E. L. Barber is attending’ a meeting of Fayetteville Presbytery being held in Raeford this week. Miss Leta McBryde is away from her post of duty as stenographer for J. Vance Rowe on account of an at tack of influenza. Mrs. Robert Gwyn and little daughter, Gaynelle, are spending some time in Raleigh as the guest of relatives. Jesse Frink spent last Sunday in Wilmington visiting relatives. Miss Evelyn Williams of Lumber- ton, was the Sunday guest of Miss Mildred Russell.
