A. Borst, presiding in the absence of the president. Routine business was attended to, and the club voted to make a pledge to the Jane S. McKim- mon student loan fund. Mrs. Ryals gave a most interesting talk on sal ads and desserts, and distiributed re cipe books. Mrs. C. L. Tyson, social chairman, then presented a fruit con test in keeping with the program, and fruit prizes were awarded the winners, Mrs. S. R. Smith, first and Mrs. W. L. Muse and fam ily of Southern Pines were Sunday callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gschwind. Miss Lois Buchanan attended the funeral of her uncle, James L. Thom as who passed away last week at his home in Broadway. Ernest Rivenbark, Harold Gobble and James Stogner of Hamlet were recent visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Griffin. Mr. Griffin’.^ many friends will be glad to know that his health is much improved. He is now able to walk around outside the house some and enjoy the spring ,®un- shine. Miss Mary McKeithen and Mrs. Margaret McKeithen Jones of Aber deen were week-end guests of Misses Vera Newton and Jessie Mae Sugg at their apartment in the Beasley building. Miss Margaret McLeod and Miss Lois Buchanan spent the week-end with relatives in Broadway. T. J. Smith spent a part of last week in Fayetteville where he under went an operation for the removal of an eye. He was able to return home on Friday and is getting along nice ly. Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
