They make novelties in wrought iron, in sheet iron, in hand work and in machined product. Fences, brackets, hammered hard ware for building, ornamental work, tanks, and various unusual things. Many of the new homes in the vicin ity give evidence of their work and its originality and adaptability to the architecture of the Sandhills. They have widened a field that did not seem to exist when they came here, and now were they to go away every^dy would wonder how we ever got along with out them. They belong pretty closely to the art class in their wrought-iron production. Made-in-State Sale Pinehur^ Department Store Offerings Show Scope of Home-Made Products The Pinehurst Department Store rings the bell in its announcement of the sale of many things made in North Carolina. When you look over the list of things made in this state it is rather surprising how much is contributed by North Carolina factories and shops, and it looks as if the cry that we buy too much away from home is not weHgrounded . The Pinehurst De partment Store stands loyally by North Carolina made products, and i£ leads the way for the rest of us to stand by Made-in-North Caro lina as well as Made-in-Moore county. Fact is, all of Pinehurst is right active in supplying its needs from North Carolina and from Moore county products, for a steady stream of wares from the state and county flow in that di rection. Sally at Pinehurst is o-ne of the illustrators of the Made-in-Moore County idea, for he is a contractor r and builder and he introduces many ‘ a novel and original idea in his con struction. Sally was instrumental in establishing the use of native stone, going out into the forests and hill 'country to hunt up good, building stone and one of the first examples is j the archery building at Pinehurst, which was his creation. He has put a lot of stone in many buildings, many innovations of all sorts, and has his mark on a lot of the best jobs in the county. Moore county would feel lone some without the things Mr. Sally has been creating in the county since he put his feet in the tar belt many years ago. When the Sandhil Furniture Corpor ation was founded at West End it was more or less of an experiment, but its new features soon showed the experiment was based on sound foot ing. In 1930 the plant operated with out the loss of a day, operating now about 60 men, making poster beds. An addition to the plant which will almost double the capacity is now un der construction. It will be ready for operation about August 1. The com pany makes special lines of beds of walnut, antique maple and other woods of an unusual type, with built in electric lights at the head. This innovation has made a big hit. The wood used is cut largely from the swamps and old farms of the neigh borhood, the walnut output being of special interest. Much gum is yfound by the cruisers who hunt up the tim ber, which by selection affords many rarities in the creation of striking furniture models. The Sandhill cor poration has made a new center of the West End section.
