He was accom panied by Mrs. Porter and they were dinner iguests of Mrs. George W. Brooks. “Music” was the topic chosen by the Rev. Charles A. Lawrence for his service at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening for his service at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening, and a number of the old favorite hymns were sung. B. Graham with almost perfect attendance, only one member being absent. The business session was presided over by the chairman, Mrs. H. A. Borst. Mrs. C. L. Tyson called the roll and* Bible verses were given in response. A fi nancial report was made and it was decided to hold a variety sale on the following Saturday. An interesting stiidy of the first chapter of »/ohn was led bj’^ Mrs. G. W. Griffin. Several delightful contests were presented during the social hour and the winners were Mrs. C. L. Tyson, Mrs. W. J. Cameron, Mrs. H. A. Borst and Mrs. S. R. Smith. The hostess was assisted in serving refreshments by her daughter. Miss Catharine Gra ham, and her nieces, Misses Louise and Marjorie Leslie. Mrs. W. H. Keith invited the auxil iary to her home for the July meet ing. Johnson and son, Dan Johnson, of Morven spent Saturday at the home of Mrs. Royall Cox. Mrs. Griggs is Mrs.Cox’s mother. Misses Neolia and Valeria Mc- Crummen of West End were visitors in town Friday afternoon. Will Klingenschmidt has accepted a position with Pender’s is Raleigh. R. L. Mayfield went to Raleigh on Monday to attend a three-day con ference of vocational agriculture teachers at State College. Miss Exie Beasley, Miss Ruth Langston and R. P. Beasley of Apex spent the w^eek-end in Vass. W. B. Graham, J. M. Davis, J. A. Thomas, W. D. Matthews, Mrs. H. A. Borst and Mrs. S. R. Smith, stew ards in the Vass Methodist Church, went to Aberdeen Sunday to attend quarterly conference at Page Memor ial Church. The conference followed a splendid sermon by the Rev. H. C.
