Miss Ella Blaisdell and Mrs. Wins low left Thursday for Vermont to spend the remainder of the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Vance McMillan have moved into the Burgess cottage on Ohio avenue. ^ Mrs. Kenneth Grigg and children of Lincolnton are visiting Mrs. Grigg’s sister, Mrs. J. V. Williamson. Miss Dorothy Case and Miss Doro thy Stutz spent the past week-end in Kingsport, Tenn. Miss Lenora Riggan and Miss Dorothy Thompson accom panied them on the trip and visited friends in Big Stone Gap, Va. Miss Dorothy Thompson who has been the house guest of Miss Lenora l^iggan returned Monday to her home in Cheraw. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Montgomery and son Billy of Wilmington spent the Fourth in Southern Pines as guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Bums. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Ruggles and Mr. and Mrs. John Ruggles were at Car olina Beach over the Fourth visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Plummer. Clarence Edson and Miss Jean Currie motored to Carolina Beach Monday for the day. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Averitt of Win ston-Salem spent the past week end here as guests' of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Mills at their home on Page Street. Miss Zilla Adams and Miss Nelle Simons will leave for Myrtle Beach Saturday to spend a two week’s vaca tion. Miss Ruby Taft has returned after spending several days in Washing ton. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Thrower and daughter Anne have returned to Chic ago after spending some time here as guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Throw er. ^ Dr. Milliken and family spent the week-end in Raleigh. C. P. Everest returned Tuesday from a vacation in Wyalusing, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lewis departed for Bethlehem, N. H., Monday. L. L. Hedgepeth,-former superin tendent of the Water Department, was in town this week. Mrs. Hedge peth is in Raleigh where her small daughter is in Rex hospital having been seriously hurt in an automobile accident. Harry Kilpatrick, special compen sation auditor for the Traveler’s In surance Co., who has been here for several days, has gone to Wilming ton. Mrs Virgil Clark returned from Asheville Sunday where she has been visiting relatives for several days. Miss Bettie Schwab and her moth er, Mrs. Schwab, have closed Betty’s Beauty Shop and have gone north for the summer. Miss Laura Jenks and Miss Titus left Monday night to spend the sum mer in Vermont. Ben Bradin will go to Fort Moultrie for two weeks training with the Na tional Guards Saturday. Mrs. Bradin and daughter Imogene and Mrs. Lucy Cameron and Ruth will accompany him as far as Charleston. Miss Eileen Loomis has gone to Richmond to attend summer school at Massey College. Paul Barnum motored to Greens boro Tuesday. Mrs. Barnum accom panied him as far as Asheboro where she visited Mrs. Eugene Shaffer. Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Nichols have closed their house on Weymouth Heights and are motoring to Ashe ville where they will spend the sum mer. Mrs. Winnie J. Dodge and daugrht- er, Dr. Eva Dodge have returned to Southern Pines after spending some time in Massachusetts. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Stevens return ed Tuesday from a week-end at Roar ing Gap. Harry Vetterlein and family are at home in Niagara, returning Saturday from a sojourn in Atlntic City. Mr. and Mrs. John Ramsbottom are motoring north for Pawtucket, R. I., where they will spend the summer. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Merrill will mo tor to the White Mountains, where they will remain for the summer. Edward Prizer has gone to Western North Carolina to spend a month at a boy’s camp near Hendersonville. Dr. Neal, veterinary surgeon, was called, but efforts to save the animal were fruitless. Little Miss Margaret McDougald, who has been spending some time with her grandmother, Mrs. Julia Mc Dougald left for her home in Venus, Fla., Sunday night. She was accom panied as far as Jacksonville by her aunt, Mrs. Archie McDougald of Ham let. Margaret’s school, at Fort Green, Fla., opened July 6 and will close the last of January, this is done in order that the children can pick strawber ries and help with the early trucking.
