Guests included the Misses Sarah Stuart, Helena Kelly, Alene Shear, Lorraine McDaniels, Marjorie Ewing, Edith Poate, Betty Hoag, Alice Abel, Elean or Grover, Anna Cameron and Pauline Poe. Miss Gussie Cameron was hostess at a lovely bridge party at her home Tuesday evening in honor of her sis ter, Mrs. D. D. Wicker of Hamlet. The home was arranged with mixed summer flowers. Miss Emily Richard son won the prize for high score and Miss Louise Hinds the consolation prize. Guests included Mrs. D. D. Wicker, Miss Louise Hinds, Miss Emily Richardson ,Miss Dorothy Rich ardson, Miss Helen Butler, Mrs. Lil lian Bliles and Miss Lena Cameron. Friday afternoon, Miss Helena Kelly entertained at two tables of bridge at her home on Indiana ave nue. Lina Lee Hart celebrated her fourth birthday Friday, having as luncheon guests four of her little friends at the home of her parents on Massa chusetts avenue. Her guests were Ruth Page, Mary Louise Black, Teen- sie Shamburger and David Henry Dickie. The Misses Mary and Lois Swett were joint hostesses at a bridge party at their home Tuesday evening. Miss Ruth Travis and Miss Miriam John son w^on the high score honors. Barron and daughter, Eleanor, have gone to -Blowing Rock to spend some time. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Coursey return ed Saturday from their wedding trip to Rochester, Niagara Falls and other points. They left on Sund^ay for Ashe ville. Mrs. J, V. McDaniels and Mrs. Ethel Haight returned Thursday from Baltimore where Mrs. Haight has re cently undergoine an operation. Friends will be glad to know that she is improving and able to be out again. Miss Katherine Buchan returned Monday from Norfolk, Virginia where she visited relatives for the past month. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kaylor and children spent Sunday at Kure Beach. Mrs. W. V. Prillaman and children, Mary Jane and David, left Tuesday by motor for New Canaan, Conn. She was also accompanied by Mrs. Maude Royer, who will go to Boston, and Miss Georgia Booth. Mrs. John Ferguson and daughter, Doris, and Jack Ferguson spent the past week-end in Parkton. • Mrs. C. M. Atkinson of York, S. C., is here visiting her son, J. W. At kinson, and Mrs. Atkinson. Dr. Vida McLeod will go to Saluda Monday to attend the Baby Clinic until August 1. Hunt Fisher and Ralph Chandler, Jr., left Monday morning for Camp Steere on the Catawba River to spend two weeks. Tommie Atkinson is in York, S. C., visiting his aunt, Mrs. Annie Moore. Among the guests at Myrtle Beach Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. M. Y. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Brown and son and Miss Pauline Miller left Wednes day for a motor trip through the New England States and Canada. Miss Caroline Jenks, who has been ill at her home in Weymouth Heights, is improving. Mrs. R. T. Mills will go to Chapel Hill Tuesday to attend five weeks of summer school. Mrs. L. L. Hedgepeth and children will arrive Friday to spend several daj^s with Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Mills. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Thrower left Wednesday for Henderson to visit relatives. Miss June Anderson will leave Sun day to spend a two weeks vacation at Virginia Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Carson Blue, Miss Marguerite Blue, Carson, Jr., and Yonne Giles were guests over the week-end of Walter Blue at his home on East Broad street. Miss Mar guerite Blue will remain for a three weeks visit. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Vale and daughter, Juliette have closed their home, “Loblolly,” for the summer and have gone to Princeton, N. J. Mrs. R. V. Carstens hag returned from Moore County Hospital where she underwent an appendicitis oper ation, Her sister, Mrs. Isabelle Ade of Louisville, Ky., has arrived here to visit her for som« time. Miss Eleanor Moore will go to Win ston-Salem Sunday to be the guest of her sister, Mrs. Earle Merrill for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Earle Merrill will spend the week-end here. Mrs. Beulah Vann spent the past week-end in Winston-Salem and Blow ing Rock. Miss Louise Hinds has returned to Boston after spending two weeks here as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Richardson at their home on Bennett street. Mr. and Mrs. Ed-mund Pavenstedt are in New York for a few days. Mrs. V. M. Royer and Miss Georgia Booth are en route north, accompany ing Mrs. W. V. Prillman. E. C. Stevens motored to Richmond Tuesday joining Mrs. Stevens for a few days prior to her departure for Boston. Ralph Chandler journeyed to Char lotte Monday, taking Master Chandler and Hunt Fisher to the Boy Scout Camp, “Camp Steere” of the Char lotte Area Council. Other local boys are preparing to spend a week in this camp. J .E. Wilson has returned home from Norfolk, Va., where he has been working for several weeks. W. G. Andrews was carried to Scott’s Hospital on Tuesday evening and was operated on for appendicitis.
