also Mrs. Edge and Mrs, Dan Me-

In the flower contest Mrs. Charlie
Pleasants, Jr., was awarded both
first and second prizes, and was
presented with a lovely silver vase
and an attractive piece of pottery.
The subject of study for the after
noon was “The Arrangement of the.
House for Summer,” and interesting
readings were enjoyed. Mrs. Malcolm
Pleasants read a paper on “Freshen
ing up for Summer,^ ’and Mrs. For
rest Lockey on “Jams and Jellies.” A
delightful social hour followed the
meeting. The next meeting will be in
the form of a picnic and swimming
party at Lakeview, with Mrs. Roy
Harrington and Mrs. Robert Gwyn
acting as hostesses.
Bridge Club Meets
On last Friday night Miss Mary
Harrington was a delightful hostess
to her Bridge Club, entertaining at
two tables at her attractive home on
Main street.
After an interesting hour of the
game the high score prize was award
ed to Miss Mildred Campbell. Mrs.
Wimberly Bowman was the special
guest of the club.

Mrs. Norman Sharpe of Burlington

Saturday afternoon to visit Mrs. J.
McN. Johnson.
Mrs. H. E. Bowman spent the past
week-end visiting friends at Myrtle
Beach.
Aubrey Norris, who has been tele
graph operator for the Western Un
ion at Mt. Olive came home last week
to help out in the Western Union of
fice here during the peach season.
E. T. McKeithen accompanied his
brother, Neill McKeithen to a Char
lotte hospital the first of the week,
where Neill expects to undergo an
operation on his foot.
Ralph Graham spent the last week
end at Mooresville, visiting relatives,
Mrs. A. F. Dees is confined to her
home with an attack of mumps.
Miss Ina Wilson of Raeford is a
guest of her sister, Mrs. Clay Kirk.
Mrs. Eva Vandergrift, who has
been visiting friends in town for the
past two weeks, returned to her home
in Salemburg last Friday.

Claimed by Death
Beloved Resident of West End
Community Dies After
Brief Illness
Mrs. Flora Thomas ,a beloved resi
dent of West End community, passed
away on Tuesday, July 7th. She was
taken suddenly ill Sunday night, July
5th at about ten o’clock. Dr. Blue was
summoned and he immediately rush
ed her to the Moore County Hospital
where she bravely fought death until
the end which occurred Tueday
morning between ten and eleven
o’clock. M > . ■ »
This was ftlore than a shock to her
loved ones, .her community and all
who knew her from miles around.
She was always so lively, healthy and
strong that people never dreamed
of her being taken from them sudden
ly and mysteriously.
Mrs. Thomas will be sadly missed in
her community and church and most
of all in her home where she was so
faithful and good. She was a noble,
generous Christian wife and mother.
To know her was to love her. When
you went into her home she always
met. you with a smile, and upon leav
ing she had a familiar way of follow
ing you to hear and talking with
you until you were gone.
Mrs. Thomas leaves a brother, two
sisters, a loving husband, four sweet
little children and a large host of rel
atives and friends to mourn her de
parture.
Funeral services were conducted at
Culdee Church by the Rev. R. G.
Matherson on Wednesday afternoon
at two o’clock. Her body was laid to
rest in. the cemetery under a beauti
ful mound of flowers.
