Mrs. Martin Hostess
Mrs. George D. Martin was a de
lightful hostess to the Thursday Af
ternoon Book C^ub on last Thursday
afternoon, when she entertained the
members and a number of invited
guests at the Community House.
An interesting program having for
its subject, “Distinguished American
Sculptors” was enjoyed, and especial
ly the well prepared papers. Mrs. H.
E. Bowman read a paper on “Aug
ustus St. Gaudens;” Mrs. H. L. Boggs
read a paper on “French, Barnard,
MacMonnies, Taft,” and Mrs. J. W.
Graham closed the program with a
paper on “Other Sculptors of Recent
Interest.”
The president read a letter from
Mrs. T. B. Upchurch, the president of
this district, urging the members of
this club to attend the State meet
ing of the Federated Clubs to be held
in Hamlet on October 15th. Mrs. R.
N. Page also stressed the importance
of hospital auxiliary work among the
members.
An enjoyable social hour followed
the meeting during which the host
ess served delicious refreshments.

Charles Norwood of Monroe has
moved his family to Aberdeen and is

school. Mr. Norwood is a new mem
ber of the Aberdeen High School fac
ulty.
Friends of M. Folley are glad to
see him back in town again, after
spending the summer months with his
daughter at Siler City.
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lawhon and
little daughter, Ruth, have jus't re
turned from a ten-day motor trip to
visit friends in Ohio.
Mrs. H. L. Boggs, who has recent
ly visited relatives in the north, re
turned home last week.
Mrs. J. R. Page and Mrs. Frank
Shamburger visited relatives in Ashe-
boro last Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. E. R. Creel was confined to
her home by sickness the first of the
week.
W. E. Freeman, who is now man
ager of the Freeman Furniture Store
here, is moving his family to Aber
deen this week from Fayetteville, and
will occupy the bungalow on Main
street just above that of Charles
Bridges.

death of Mrs. Augusta McKeither
Hart were adopted by the Woman’s
Auxiliary of the Carthage Presbyter
ian church:
“On the morning of August 30,
1931, the gentle spirit of Mrs. Au
gusta McKeithen Hart passed into
the presence of her Lord where there
awaited her the blessed reward of
eternal joy.
“Though lost to us for a little
while, the consecration of her life of
faith shall remain an ever abiding
memory of cheerful service to her
Master and loved ones. Her person
ality was one of rare sweetness and
gentleness and loyalty to every duty.
“We, the members of the Woman’s
Auxiliary of the Carthage Presbyter
ian Church, of which she was a de
voted member, wish to express our
sincere gratitude for her life amonf;
us and our deep sorrow at the loss of
her presence. Therefore be it resolv
