Well, You Can’t Have a Party Without Chicken That’s What Led to Theft of Will Blue’s Roost—and to Recorder’s Court Aberdeen Social Events Chicken stealing, according to Mon day’s court dfOcket, seems to be the favorite sport in Moore county at present, but Judge Humber is frown ing upon this form of amusement and handing out some pretty stiff pun- Book Club Meeting * ^ The Thursday Afternoon Bc,ok Ciub was delightfully entertained on Thursday afternoon at the Commun ity House,-with Mrs. W. T. Huntley presiding as the gracious hostess. The living room was artistically decorated with fall foliage with the Hallowe-’en m.otif attractively carried out in the decorations and refreshments. During the program the members and guests present hemmed the new ishment. An interesting study hour on before the court charged with stealing “American Etchers” was enjoyed, with chickens. The men, the evidence brought out, suggested to the wo men that they give a dance. The wo men agreed upon condition that the men furnish the chickens, so plans for the party were on. One of the men knew where there were some chickens, (On W. A. Blue’s place at Aberdeen, so they set ,out to carry out their part of the -contract. All went well to begin with, but officers got mixed up in the affair and upset the plans for a chicken feast. Bowman and other club members who attended the district meeting in Ham let the week before gave splendid re ports on what had impressed them most forcibly at this meeting. The special guests at this meeting were Mrs. J. A. Bryant, Mrs. Janette Herndon, Mrs. T. A. Buma, Mrs. Gar- Lee or Gonzales, whichever he may be, j land Farrell, Mrs. Dan Allred, Mrs. and Henry pleaded guilty to stealing C. C. Bethune, and Misses Nancy Bed- chickens and each was given 121 dingfield, Miss Mary McKeithen and months on the roads. Bertha and Gen eva pleaded not guilty, but they were fjound guilty of receiving stolen prop erty, knowing it to have been stolen, i were served. Sentence was deferred as to the two \ women. Carlyle Frye and Erwin Lambert, white, were up on a charge of stal ing two game roosters, the property of Prof. W. S. Evans of the Elise school. Frye was found *not guilty, but Lambert was given four months, beginning October 5. James Smith, colored, charged with breaking and entering and larceny, Miss Williams. Miss Hazel Windham, Mildred Rus sell, Frances Hall, Sidney Windham, Harry DuMeer, Jack Smith, Jim Wil son and Jake Maurer were among the Aberdeen people attending the Ten- nessee-Carolina football game at Chapel Hill last Saturday. Two of the small children of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bobbitt, wli^ reside in Lakeside Heights, are ill with scarlet fever. Miss Margaret Tebo of Baltimore, Md., is the guest of Mi^s. W. L. Bat chelor at her home on Page Hill. Cecil Backus of Wilmington, Del., who came down to the Mossgiel Club for s,ome hunting the first of the week, has been quite ill with neuritis since h!s arrival. Miss Gladys Osborne ,of Clinton was the week-end guest of her sister. Miss Mildred Osborne at The Teach- erage. Mrs. Walter Childry, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Ada Weaver for some time, returned to her home in Sanford, Florida last Saturday. Miss Martha Page, a student at Ashley Hall College, near Charleston, S. C., and several schoolmates spent the week-end in Aberdeen visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Page, Jr. John Blue, a student at the Uni versity, Chapel Hill, came home last week-end for a visit with home folks. Hedgepeth, 24 years old, a State Highway patrolman, was fatally injured at Laurinburg last Friday night when his motorcycle crashed into a telephone pole while rounding a curve just outside the city limits. Hedgepeth is believed to kave been in pursuit of a speeding motorist. He was rushed to the Hamlet Hospital where he died. He had been in Aber deen frequently and had a number •f friends here.
