Tally were charming hostess at a delightful party at the home of Mrs. Snow in honor of Mrs. H. 0. Averitt, a recent bride. The rooms were lavishly dec orated with long fronds of golden rod and handsome ferns, where six tables were prepared for bridge. When tallies were counted Miss Margaret Gilchrist and Mrs. McLean * were awarded the prizes. The honoree was presented a handsome gift. The guests from Carthage were Mesdames D. N. Carter, George D. Carter, Sam Miller and Fred Flinchuni. Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. H. P. Mc Pherson and Miss Manda McPherson were gracious hostess to Circle No. 1 of the Woman’s Auxiliary. Mrs. J. P. Monroe of Sanford conducted a spiritual devotional and Miss Mamie Arnold, chairman, presented an in teresting program. Japan, medical missions and White Cross work were discussed, after which the Bible study was conducted. The circle felt honor ed to have as guests two former mem bers, Mrs. J. P. Monroe, of Sanford and Mrs. Warren Ferguson of Chic ago. In the absence of the pastor, the Rev. J. H. Buffalo, who was con ducting a revival meeting at Center Church, the Rev. Frank Blue of Car thage filled Mr. Buffalo’s appointment at the Methodist Church last Sunday evening. The congregation was made up of many friends and relatives who were deeply interested in hear ing this able young misister for the first time. A series of meetings will commence in the Baptist church next Sunday morning and a cordial invitation is extended to every one to attend these meetings. Owing to this announce ment, the Rev. M. D. McNeill can celled his regular appointment for the third Sunday evening, and asked his congregation to worship with the Baptists at that time. The Rev. Frank Hare, the Baptist pastor will be as sisted in this meeting by some vis iting minister. Miss Nellie Kelly of the White Hill community and Miss Flora Phillips left Tuesday for Flora MacDonald College. Miss Kelly is a member of the Sophomore class. Miss Phillips, a graduate of Cameron High School, was valedictorian of her class. Miss Jennie McDonald, trained nurse, returned home from Troy last week. Miss Olivia Harmon of Chapel Hill is guest of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Thomas. Miss Har mon has both an A. B. and M. A. de- grio and will soon add Ph. D. to the list. Miss Herring of Roseboro is guest of Mr. and Mrs. Flint Loving. Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Proctor of Whiteville were guests of Mrs. Loula Muse Friday, leaving in the afternoon, accompanied by Mrs. Jewell Hemphill, for Henderson, where they were week end guests of Dr. J. 1). Muse. William Parker left last Wednes day for Washington, D. C. where he has accepted a position in a grocery store. He will also take a business course while in the city. Miss Margaret Thomas attended the Farm Woman’s Course at State Col lege, Raleigh, after which she spent a week with relatives in Chatham county. Mrs. W. G. Parker and mother, Mrs. Lizzie Borst, spent several days in Petersburg, Va., visiting relatives. Wilbur Currie and Garrett Wal lace of Carthage were in town Sun day. After visiting relatives in Troy, \'a., Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Loving and Miss Lucille Loving returned home Sunday. Mr. Yow and family of Lemon Springs were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Asa Yow. J. J. Irvin ?.nd Asa Yow, who have been ill are gradually improving. Mrs. J. P. Turnley and mother, Mrs. Burgess, are visiting in Broad way. Miss Mary ^icDonald spent Tues day and Wednesday in Raieigh, guest of Mr. and Mrs. Eail York. D. Thomasson, young son of Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Thomasson of route 1, is again a pwtient at the Moore County Hospital where he underwent an operation for adhesions. Young Thomasson was critically ill about a year ago. and was a patient at this hospital for some six or eight weeks after an appendicitis operation. Archie Lawhon sccompanied by an uncle and some nieces and nephews of Fayetteville, was in town Sunday afternoon, visiting the grave of his grand-father and graves of other relatives in the cemetery. Mrs. J. M. Guthrie who has been confined at home with an infected foot is much better. Lawrence was hostess to the Girls’ Circle of the Presbyterian church an evening of last week at which time a very interesting pro gram on Japan was given with Miss .Marian McMillan as leader. During the Bible study period questions on the book of John were asked by several of the girls. •A delightful social hour followed the program during which several games and contests suggestive of the mission field in Japan were enjoyed. Refresh ments were served and miniature Jap anese fans were given as favors. Miss Jessie Brooks and Mr. W. M. Moore wer3 special guests for the social hour.
