Seymour of Aberdeen and R. T. Woodruff of Lakeview. The club started the new year with close to 100 percent attendance and with one new member, the Rev. Mur doch McLeod of Pinehurst, a former member. Mr. McLeod made a brief talk. At the njeeting was Director Governor Ralph Barker of Durham. Mr. Barker made an inspiring talk and complimented the club on the fine start for 1934. Cyrus Butler Married On Friday in Georgia Miss Alice McGukin is Bride of Son of Mr. and Mrs. Bion H. Butler MR. AND MRS. ANGELO MONTESANTI Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Montesanti of Southern Pines celebrated their Silver Wedding annivei'sary on Wednesday, December 27th, at a reception and dinner at their home on Pennsylvania avenue. More than fifty of their friends called during the afternoon to congiatulate “the yovmg couple.” The dinner was served at a long table on which appeared a beautiful display of orchids, the gift of Judge William A. (Photo by Eddy). Acquaintances of Cyrus Butler have received announcements from Hart well, Ga., of the marriage of Miss I Alice McGukin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. McGukin, to Cyrus O. Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bion H. Butler of Southern Pines, on F'riday, Decembei' 29th at Hartwell. Miss McGukin was a member of the faculty of the Kingsport, Tennes see, High Schools and has made sev eral trips to Southern Pines where Cyrus’s friends have become her triends. She was educated at Red Springs and the University of Geor gia. She has traveled over consider able of the United States and many of the European countries. Cyrus Butler is a chemical engineer and a graduate of State College. He is con nected with the Tennessee Eastman Corporation of Kingsport. After a honeymoon through the sjouthern states they will make their home on Sullivan boulevard, Kingsport, Tenn. Mrs. Bion Butler and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Butler were among the wed ding guests at a buffet supper Thurs day night. Mr. Burt and his committeee, in cluding Frank Buchan, Nelson C. Hyde, the Rev. J. Fred Stimson and Dr. L. B. McBrayer, have a number of prominent men in view for the speaker’s table that night, and are also arranging some amusing stunts. Hiram Westbrook heads the nomi nating committee which will nominate directors for the Chamber of Com merce for 1934, to be elected the night of the annual dinner. UNITED DRY FORCES OF STATE TO MEET JANUARY 16 The United Dry Forces of North Carolina, non-partisan-interdenomina tional organization, will assemble in a state-wide conference at Greens boro on January 16th, for the pur pose of perfecting a permanent or^ ^nization to continue in North Car olina a constructive program of edu cation in favor of temperance. All persons in North Carolina in terested in the promotion of temper ance are invited to attend the confer ence and all members of the Central Committee, all candidates, county chairmen and managers of the United Dry Forces are particularly urged to be present.
